View Full Version : Have Fox stopped rental windows??
I see both Moulin Rouge and Planet of the Apes is released in a few months to buy. I thought Fox had rental windows for a few months. It'd be great if they have, as rental windows are ridiculous IMO.

i was thinking about this the other day. are the DVDs that blockbuster use to rent out different to the ones we buy? also, do the DVDs they rent cost more for them to purchase? if they just use the DVDs that are going to be sold and charge £4 to rent it that just sucks! imagine how much discount BB get when they purchase DVDs to rent, it must cost a fraction of retail.they must be laughin' it up. incidently, how much does it cost to make a DVD?

The actual cost of a disc is in the 50 pence or less region. I guess to manufacture could cost as much as £2, but I'm guess less than £1. It's the licensing issues and whatnot that bumps up the price.
I don't think they've dropped the window, high profile releases like the two mentioned are big money spinners hence the release.
DVD's that are currently in the rental window cost around £40-£50 (same as new vhs releases) to buy direct friom a distributer.

There have been loads of other high profile releases though that had to suffer a rental window. Me Myself and Irene, Meet the Parents, Fight Club etc.
I've not been into Blockbusters in yonks so i could be wrong there might be the quick 4 week or so rental.

It also seems that Universal titles are going to come this way too. With at least a ONE MONTH rental window before the retail releases versions. AND, they will probably be barebones versions aswell.
