Cool - might get a couple of these to avoid using my Russian Roulette image tank.
Anyone know the difference between the Extreme III and the Ultra II which is a quid cheper?

The Ultra is meant to be x60, whilst the Extreme is x133. Not sure what rig you've got, but you're likely to only notice the difference when downloading. But for the sake of a £1, I'd be more inclined to go for the dearer card.

Extreme 3 will also work under more severe weather conditions (extreme hot and cold) but that probably won't matter much to you.

Downloading to the pc is where you'll see the speed.

I bought one of these back in January for £42.99 from Amazon.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/redirect-home?tag=thedvdforums-21&site=dvd), and I think that was about as cheap as it got at that time; goes to show how prices fall!

Oh, and I've just ordered another from this link to bolster the collection

7DayShop do 4 gigs for £17.99 (Datawrite) and they work just fine.

They do indeed, however they're very slow. You won't notice much of a difference apart from when downloading and the number of shots you can take before the buffer fills up on your camera e.g. I believe my 20D started to slow down on burst mode when I'd taken 15 JPEGS as opposed to 23 shots in a row with Sandisk Extremes.

They've got the 8GB for the price of 2 x 4GBs.

But they don't have any 8GBs in stock and I've had trouble with out-of-stock items with Play.

Got another 2GB for the bag, cheers OP.

I used to get a bit worried when i first bought a 1Gb card - putting all my eggs in one basket. Not worried in the least about 1Gb nor even 4Gb (as they only hold about 57 or 228 RAW files respectively), but 8Gb... it all really depends on how comfortable you are having a lot of pictures on one card.

I can shoot 21 RAWs on the D200 with these cards before its slows down a bit after that, but I've never shot a burst of 21 in the real world. I'd always go for capacity over speed tbh.

Thanks Coolio. Have placed an order. Just cleared off my credit card bill so the timing is spot on

Only got a 1GB and heading off on-holiday in June so the extra space is needed. If I didn't have my eye on a wide angle sigma lens I would have had two ;)

That figure probably has more to do with the size of the buffer. It could've been more than 15 (might've been closer to 18 - will retest tonight), but I'm comparing the speed between two different cards on the same camera. I've never squeezed off 21 frames in anger, but the real test is if you were to do a couple of 6 frame bursts with a short gap between each one as you would at a sports match, you'd probably noticed the difference.
But as I mentioned the place where you do notice the difference is when you're downloading to your PC.
I bought one, and I use it for landscape photography.

Yeah, but as Matholwch i would rather have a couple of smaller ones that one big one, but also to add to it, i have two bodies, so one spare for each ;) got 4x 4Gb's CF and 1x 2Gb SD, so should keep me happy for now :)

Thanks I ordered one as well, really good price for these cards. I'd rather stick to 2Gb cards than risk losing more images on a 4Gb card, but thats just me. Used to work for media company with about 10 photographers out taking pics full time, and the number of images lost through corrupt cards was scary, and we had to recover them, not always successfully. The majority were lexar cards which I always saw as a good brand.

2 x 2gb are cheaper, although I can see why people go for either option.

yeah i ordered 2x 4gb, so would have been 4x 2gb which means i would have had to change cards more often with only about 110 pictures on a 2gb card on the 5D, but its all worked out fine anyway, should be here when i wake up :)

Excellent. Just ordered one.

Anyone had any problems with delivery from play for these?

I ordered on 19th. The play website says my order was dispatched on 20th, but nothing has been received yet!

It looks like I have to wait 21 days before play will investigate!

I ordered 2 the day I started this thread and they arrived last Friday.

Now, my question is, how do I format these cards?

Just stick them in the camera. AFAIK, most cameras have a format card option.

Still nothing has appeared. I have used play before and had no problems. I suspect delivery problems.

I rang Play today and they said sorry but they couldn't do anything until the 21 days have passed! great!
