I'm looking forward to this. A lot.
This has the potential to be either really good ..... or truly awful. If they try & do a BSG & make it all dark & serious, it just wont work. It needs to be cheesy, colourful & camp like the 80's movie. Fingers-crossed they get the license to use the Queen title-track, now THAT would be cool.
Quick bump for this as I just realised it starts next week. Quite looking forward to it myself - Scifi website with a brief promo is here (http://www.scifi.com/flashgordon/?__source=FlashG|GorillaNation&par=GorillaNation).
I have a BAD feeling about this show.... PLEEZE let it be ok at least. :|

Me too having seen a pic of EMperor MIng looking like a teenager and not Max Von Sydow (the correct look!)
Wow, that looks terrible. Worse acting than Smallville. Was it shot for less than Dr Who's budget??

The only good thing about that trailer is the 'Flash' theme. Which apparently according to a review of the first episode, is not on the programme anyway. :oh-hum:
WTF?!?! It looks horrific.
Zarkov looks like a young geekier Drew Carey. And as Cliff states Ming should look excatly like Max Von Sydow otherwise what's the point? He is not in the least bit scary from that BTS crap. Looks like he works in the city!
It's kind of ironic that one of the actors is called Cliche.

I've relooked at Mings picture and whilst not a teenager he's not MIng, now I'm all for re-interpretation if it works, but this looks a dud from that trailer. And besides Flash is a pretty superficial story anyway so stay with what you've got if your going with the name Flash Gordon. Its proved to work and there's plenty of scope in interpretation. The First half can be a disaster movie for instance.

I though the abortive pilot for Aquaman (and also Smallville spinoff) was bad, yet this looks to be far, far worse. Probably still give it a go though.
12 posts and no-one has said it yet, so I suppose I will have to do the honours ...
"Gordon's Alive!!!?"
:D
Aint-it-Cool have an article today with all the Press reviews for this & across the board, with no exceptions, they all hate it. Sounds like it's another Painkiller Jane. :|

And I'm still wondering why that's got a full first season, with every episode I watch...
Yet it's got a 22 episode order - how?!

Whats worse, it got greenlit over Caprica...
Coolhand

I suspect it may be un-greenlit when they see the ratings
To be fair, Caprica sounded incredibly dull. The Sci-Fi channel really need to pull their socks up. Dresden Files, Painkiller Jane & now probably this too are all well below par.

I thought the Dresden Files was good

This could have been an excellent series, if only they'd not whored into some kind of Stargate Gordon meets Smallville crapfest.
So, ehhhhh yeah, the extended pilot was bad. Cheap looking, awful acting, poor script ..... but I somehow didn't find it boring. Probably something to do with the pretty actresses they have sprinkled throughout the episode.
Total lack of any chemistry between the leads & the actor they have playing Ming has zero menace.
Will the hot babes be enough to keep me watching? .... Hmmmm, maybe give it a few more before the main US TV season kicks in then make the decision to dump it or not.
Anyone else watch it or did the reviews scare everyone away?

I watched the first 10 minutes and it was awful. Couldn't watch any more.

The only reason I watched thsi was because I wanted to see something entertaining (even if it was going to be very superficial), what I got was a low budget, dull show with no redeeming features, the acting was wooden and dull and there was little chemistry between the actors, plus the eye-candy wasn't all that eye-candyish, although that was probably more due to the dodgy hair and make-up design.
This is so bad I thought they may have hired Chris Chibnall as a creative consultant.
Will I take the risk of watching the next one? probably, it's always possible it may pick up in the later episodes.

someone turned the crap-o-matic to full power on this one. even turkeys would be ashamed of being assocaited with this steaming turd of missed opportunities. not even the totty could save it :( (and I do prefer brunettes as well). Won't be wasting any more time with this one.
"The Portage Initiative" - I mean, seriously!!!!!!!11111
******* Portage Initiative!!!!!!!111
It's like bloody itv's Primeval with the rift holes and missing loved one who may or may not be alive somewhere on the other side...
I have to agree with the majority here, saw it at the weekend and was underwhelmed. It did feel like a Primark version of Stargate (and that's from someone who isn't even a fan of the of the original Stargate!). Hard to believe this came from the same channel that brought us BSG.
Vulcan101

BSG must have eaten the budget ;) .
Though, bad as it is, its still nowhere as bad as that home grown mutant abortion known as Torchwood.
The fact it got aired in the Summer when the opposition is slight should have given everyone a hint as to its relative crapness. And of course the reason for setting it on both Earth and Mongo has nothing to do with how they can cut down on special effects and costumes and save some money.

I thought Flash running after a motorhome at 5mph was REALLY EXCITING!
Low budget crap-o-rama set in random Canadian field #4567 and warehouse #4290 and #5699.
Bit of a swizz them using the Queen music in the trailers but not the eps...
The ONLY way to save this show is to get all the female cast members naaaked & rename it Flesh Gordon & make it a remake of the infamous soft-porn movie. Show saved, SciFi Channel make money, we spank our monkeys, everyone's happy.
I really, really need to add TV-Exec to my CV. :D

So which actress would you cast as a hard bitch?
Where have you seen the first episode, is it on UK TV yet?

:notworthy:D:notworthy
If you have to ask then dont do it here
I gave it about 20mins but couldn't stand any more. This could have been a really entertaining, camp and cliched show but they tried much too hard to be serious.
oh good god no...
my eyes are still bleeding after that abomination
I mean I tak chances with new US shows as muchas the next guy but i'd rather get ball cancer than have to watch that again!
I managed to tolerate the first episode but I feel like a rift opened up & sucked the life out of me after watching the second. Excrutiatingly boring & had absolutely no redeeming features to make me want to watch any more. No, not even the semi-naked female bounty-hunter is going to sway me, or Ming's daughter, or Dale .... nope, no chance.....
.... when's the next episode on? :|

you watched the 2nd ep ? :oh-hum: sad.
i watched the first ep... dire tv... will not inflict anymore pain on myself
i have a collection of the eps so far but not watched any.
is it really that bad? how is it compared to smallville?
I got to where Flash and Dale have been sucked into the portal and it's like Blake's 7 The Next Generation budget television... and as for the 'fight' with the robot in Flash's kitchen. :oh-hum:
Watched the pilots of "Chuck" and "Pushing Daisies" and the acting quality & stories were both far better and far more entertaining.

It's like it was ****ted out of the arse of Smallville.
not heard much about this today, and see they are now on episode 4, just wondering if people had started watching it and how they rated it?

it's not good. i actually though the pilot was ok - but episode 2 was so dull it sucked out any desire to watch episode 3.
Essentially it's main problem is that it has nothing to do with flash gordon - it uses the names but that seem s to be it's only connection.
i'd be surprised if it got a second season, in fact i'd be surprised if it finished this one

There is a thread discussing it on here somewhere.
A certain podcast with a rude sounding name reviewed it saying how they've been doing reviews for 2 years now, and always watch to the end, they've watched House of the Dead and ALone in the Dark til the end. You guessed it, this didn't make it, they couldn't handle wathcing it anymore.
From their review (I haven't seen it) the defining fact for me is, the leader of the wingmen and daltons character from the movie (Prince Baron?) are merged into one character, a woman who drives a pick up truck with wings painted on the sides.
i think i will give it a miss then!
One of the worst tv series I've ever seen. Period.

i think i will give it a miss then!Wise choice, I tried to watch the pilot but gave up. Crap script, wooden acting, terrible characterisation, budget not big enough.
