View Full Version : Learning remotes....and ntl
Do any of these work with NTL digiboxes?
eg Marantz RC5000 etc....
Also, is it necessary to have the docking station if they come with one, or do batteries last long enough without recharging a lot?
Finally, do you need the docking station for pc downloads?
is this the pronto rebadge? if its is, it doesn't work with the cable box which uses IRDA rather than standard IR. Theres a long thread about it at the www.remotecentral.com pronto forum.
Its not necessary to have the docking station to update the remote. the cable connects direct to the remote unit. The docking station is used for charging only.
EDIT: heres the thread (http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-pronto/thread.cgi?2970)

supposedly the newer one for all moties will work with the pace Digibox, but nothing else will, not even a remote extender. :(

To clarify, the STB - Pace model Di4001 (cursor diamond on fascia right) - used in the 'original' NTL areas uses conventional IR signalling and can be used with any learning remote. As stated above, the STBs used in the former Cable & Wireless areas (and by Telewest) - Pace model Di4100 (cursor diamond in fascia middle) - uses IRDA and AFAIK cannot be fully controlled by any learning remote. If you have the Di4100 model, I believe that certain 'One-4-All' learning remotes provide limited functionality - contact One-4-All to confirm.
The docking station is not required for the Pronto etc. Connection to the PC is from a 3.5mm 'stereo' jack on the Pronto into 9 pin serial port on the PC. I get from 1 to 2 months use from a set of 1300mAh NiMH rechargeables depending on how much the back-light is used (alkaline batteries will give you a little more). Note that since the Pronto does not lose any settings when the batteries go flat you have plenty of time to switch to another set.
Having the same box (but for telewest) I can confirm you are gonna have major hassles trying to find a uni remote that works.
I have a Medion MD 4033 which does control it perfectly...picked it up for about £8 in aldi b4 xmas. Its an 8in1 remote that works pretty well
Although it cant change source on my amp or widescreen/picture presets on the TV, and I haven't tried it with my SliMP3 player, but as that uses jvc dvd remote codes and its only got one (used) section for DVD I doubt it.
