View Full Version : Recommend a case/bag for Canon 400D?

Aside from the "official" 400D case, which is not what i'm looking for, can anyone recommend a decent (ie cheap but good) bag to hold the 400D? Ideally, I'd want pockets or pouches for spare batteries, and a few spare memory cards, and not a lot else. Padding is good, something that will protect it and stop it moving about if it gets turned upsides down etc.

I don't like the idea of the proper case that stays permanently attached. I've had a look in jessops etc and a few seem like they would hold the camera fine, but real world recommendations are always good. It can be either online or on the high street.

Thanks

Lowepro or Crumpler are the way to go.

I've got a VGC Lowepro Rezo 140 AW (http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Shoulder_Bags/allWeather/Rezo_140_AW.aspx) in black you could have for £15?

Tamrac are also very good, infact I prefer them to Lowepro, they seem to wear better IMO.

I have just got a Crumpler XXXL Bens Pizza and it's great, albeit in grey

But thse guys have the XXL for only 32 quid inc delivery. It has removable partitions.

Alternatively, I am also probably going to get the Camera Armor so that I can just chuck the camera in a normal bag.

No-one ever seems to mention Billingham any more.
Lovely bags - I've got a Hadley, and it will last me a lifetime I expect.

I do like Crumplers, and have several of their non-photographic bags, but they don't have the timeless quality of a Billingham with its brass fittings and leather straps. Oooh er.

How big is the XXXL Ben's Pizza? I am looking for a Crumpler bag to fit a 400D, 17-85, 50mm and 70-300 lenses and a 430 EX flash. Everyone seems to recommend a Loyal Chap, but I would like to get away with something smaller if possible.

another thumbs up for me for this Lowepro 200AW  - great bag and nice how you can keep it on and still access the camera, maybe look at the 100AW if you want something smaller.

I don't really have anything to compare it to. It's supposed to be the same as the Pretty Boy

Thanks. I have got the Pretty Boy M as my walkabout bag for camera and lens only. I have gone for the Ben's Pizza XXL from your previous link. Based on the XXXL Pretty Boy, this should have plenty of room for all of my stuff.

I saw the XXL and XXXL side by side yesterday and the XXL is a nice size. Not too small, but not too large, especially as these bags are rigid as hell. I like how all the partitions are fully removable to suit your requirements.

daveb - if you're in london, theres a place on TCR that does the XXXL for £23.99, only in orange or brown/blue. If you want more details, let me know

Thanks. I might see if I can cancel the order for the XXL and buy the XXXL from TCR.

Oh sorry, I meant the XXL for £23.99, and the XXXL for £26.99 although they have no stock of the XXXL at the moment.

Oops I forgot about this thread. Thanks very much for the replies everyone, and to Shoei for the pic. This is definitely something I will consider in the future, but for the moment I want a case only as big as it needs to be. Something that will fit in a rucksack until I amass a collection of lenses and other bits n pieces that then calls for a case of its own.

There are so many to choose from! Went into jessops to get a look at some and think the Lowepro 65AW might fit my needs for the time being. Was amazed to see the £16 delivered 2Gb sandisk ultra II in there for £89 though. No wonder they are complaining about low sales!!
