View Full Version : Rat Race - Anyone seen it?
Going to see Rat Race at the cinema this after noon and wondered if anyone seen it yet and what is thought of it. It's got Rowen Atkinson in it so should be funny. Any comments?

I've seen the trailers on TV, and it looks good.
Saw it on the plane on the way back from Thailand and it is, without doubt, one of the most embarrasingly bad films I've ever had the misfortune to see. It's utterly, utterly awful, trust me.
Also, bear in mind that this film came on during a 14-hour flight after the TVs had not been working for some 4 or 5 hours, so I was bored out of my skull. I even watched a documentary on Japanese Inns that came on, purely because it was something to watch, despite it being incredibly boring.
However, I'd have rather the TVs had stayed broken rather than be subjected to the utter tripe that is Rat Race.

I thought the trailers made it look embarrassingly poor, but since John Cleese appears to be reprising his loudmouthed git from the Sainsbury's ads (which nearly sank the company) and since Rowan Atkinson has never, ever been remotely amusing in a big-screen film (regardless of his stellar achievements on British television), I was turned right off it long before I read the generally lousy reviews.
So I'm not touching this one with the proverbial ten-foot pole.

Whether it was the awful script or terrible direction that caused it, I don't know, but they're certainly not anything approaching what I would call funny.
Better in the DVD and Movie Forum :)
Moving.
Isnt Seth Green in this? I was gonna maybe try to see it, basing it on him being in it as i loved anything else he was in...

Thanks guys, i think i'll save my money for a better film, like Blackhawk Down or perhaps go and see Lord of the Rings for the second time...
It's a damn shame that Rowan Atkinson and John Cleese don't seem to be able to pick decent screenplays. Why not get a new agent john...

Well despite everyones bad comments about this film we went to see it anyway. Yes I agree Rowen and John were not good at all but the rest of the cast and movie I thought was really funny. Maybe it was it was a packed cinema and everyone was laughing or maybe i was just in a good mood cos my b/day but me and my kids thought it was good. Each to their own i guess. :)

I'm not gonna comment on whether this is a good film or a bad one, but all i know is that i can't remember having such a jolly time at the cinema for many years! Saturday night, total sell out, and the whole audience screaming with laughter! Pure joy!!! Totally throwaway? Yes! but does that mean it's a bad film?
Isn't it just a remake of 'The Cannonball Run ' ??
It wasn't good, but it certainly wasn't as bad as people have made out here imho. There were some genuinly funny moments, but not enough to pull me in for repeated viewings.

No-one’s denying there are a some funny bits (Kathy Bates and Jon Lovitz aquitting themselves the most honourably) but to spread a few isolated moments out over nearly two hours smacked of desperation. If you’re going to have that kind of running time for a comedy then the material better be damn well good enough to justify it.
Think of Naked Gun and Airplane with new gags coming even before you’d finished laughing at the previous one. The pedigree of those involved should have made this one of the must-sees of the year but it’s anything but and it’s particularly sad to see fellow Brits Cleese and Atkinson who are capable of (and have done) far, far better stuff mugging their way through this dross just for the money.

No it's a remake of the comedy classic 'It's a mad,mad world.'
Cannonball Run borrowed the all star cast in a car bit from that film.
