Oops. In my small Lowepro bag, fitted to my D70 at the time - knocked off the worktop in the kitchen - right onto the tiled floor, lens first.

The camera is fine but my Sigma 70-300mm APO is a goner so I need to replace. When I bought it a couple of years ago it was THE one to get for under 200 quid. Is that still the case? For what I use the camera for I can't really justify spending on a long prime lens - a decent zoom up to 300-400mm would be ideal.I know you can pick the Sigma up cheaper now (just had a look around) but is there anything else worth considering up to about 200 quid?

Ta!

If you could stretch to £330 or so you could pick up a Nikon 70-300mm VR which seems to have much better optics than any of the previous versions and the added bonus of AF-S and VR!

Otherwise it's much the same choices as you were probably facing when you bought the Sigma :)

Thanks for that! Can't really justify over £300 tbh so at least I know I'm doing ok if I by the Sigma again - at least its a bit cheaper than it was last time! :) Cheers!

Not camera related, but have you checked to see if you're insured for the damaged lens (if you've got accidental damage on your home contents insurance then you very well might be!)

I would imagine if he has A/D cover it will deffinatly be covered.

On a similar note. I dropped my D70 and 18-70 in St Marys Loch a couple of weeks ago. I await its repair and return.

Rolled down the bank and into the water, like slow motion.

Luckily its being dealt with under extended warranty.

It was pre-dawn a couple of saturdays ago. I was hoping to get some shots of sunrise over the loch.

I was a good day, on the way to the loch I hit a big Hare and damaged the front of my new car.

Then I came home, wet up to the knees after fishing my camera out the Loch, only to catch the wife in bed with my dad.

Tell you what, i am really annoyed about the camera.

Didn't think to check actually! And the bin men came this morning...:brickwall Perhaps I should have a look in the policy booklet just in case. Thanks for that!

Went to collect my camera from Currys yesterday after "repair".

Wasnt fixed. Only worked in full auto, and even then it would only shoot 1 frame per second instead of the normal 3 ish. Its been sent away again

Bummer.
