Mel Gibson still has the dog in Mad Max 2.

I don't recall a dog being killed in <I>Mad Max</I>, but it's worth noting that there are two different cuts that have done the rounds in the past, the Australian one being slightly longer than the international one.

You can easily see which cut you have by watching the scene where the bikers chase after the young couple - if it ends with the meat cleaver hitting the car and cuts quickly to a shot of a raven, it's the cut version. To be honest, there's not a lot of difference between the two, but it's still worth mentioning for purists.
