.......not quite what I'd expected. I'd avoided reading anything about it as not to ruin my expectations and was quite shocked at the "storyline".......I was expecting something based around Paris clubs at the turn of the century, but instead it was mainly music from around 100 years later being mixed in, with the MR part only being really in the film for less than 15 minutes......
Lovely and loud though on DTS!

I saw it for the first time yesterday aswell. I assume the slapstick at the begining is a reference to early French Cinema?
TBH I could have done without it, thank goodness the drama and sincerity of the second half more than made up for it. :)

I guess this may be a love/hate film. I didn't see it in the cinema and got the R4 DVD and loved it :) It was not at all what I was expecting. But then again, I didn't know what to expect as I tried to avoid reading about it as well. I knew there was singing in it but that was all. And the DTS is really superb.

I totally agree - The initial scenes are just plain embaressing and I was really wondering if the film was going to be a pile of plop. Thank god they get it all out of their system at the start.

I've watched this 3 times since i got it last week. fantastic film. I actually liked the 'comedic' bits.

Not spoilers as such but i'll use them anyways

If you listen to the commentarys Baz says comedic parts are vital in helping keep the tragedy effective. If you notice, the film alternates between lightheartedness to sorrow numerous times.

Great film and as everyone else has pointed out fantastic dts.:D

i watched this yesterday as well, though not for the first time (cinema back in september), finally getting around to checking out the region 1 dvd. absolutely loved it at the cinema and although i still really enjoyed it again the second time around, i don't think i enjoyed it as much overall. that said, the bits i didn't like so much first time round i thought were fine this time. including the scenes at the start, so perhaps these only 'offend' when you don't know how they play within the context of the entire movie? at any rate, i think robby's 'spoilered' quote above hits the nail on the head.

and robby - just looking at your dvdprofiler .... many films i lap up myself but do yourself a favour and upgrade that R2 leon to the R1 'integrale' version! if you don't agree it's better i'll pay for it myself!! :)

It's funny you should say that Ben. That film was the first DVD my Mum ever bought me. When i unwrapped it i had to smile even though deep down i thought NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I haven't had the heart to get rid of it yet as she always asks if i've watched it lately. I definately plan on getting the integrale one.

Hang on, i disagree it's probably naff.
Shall i give you my address?.:D :p
