View Full Version : just seen Ninja Scroll on sci-fi...best dvd version ???
Just watched this on sci-fi channel and thought it was excellent. Is this available and if so which is the best version/region. Also what other anime would u recommend along the same lines as this movie??
The R2 version is trimmed during the rape scene at the beginning.
Other Anime like this? Well, there's Ninja Resurrection, which is similar in style. Some people rate Vampire Hunter D, but not me. Otherwise look out for other stuff by Madhouse - Wicked City, Monster City, etc. You can get a fair amount of reasonable Anime on region one, too. Also, give Perfect Blue a chance. It's a great film, although very disturbing, and gives a good glimpse into the dark side of Idol Singers. Many people describe it as being Hitchockian, but it reminds me more of films such as Argento's superb Tenebrae.
shame the region 1 is only 4:3 or is this the intended aspect ratio ??

Despite the 4:3 AR (and a slightly temperamental menu system), the R1 version is apparently the best.
From www.ukdvdcuts.co.uk :
Cuts to sexual violence/rape according to information I've received. R4 disc is also cut apparently, and the R1 disc is uncut/unrated.
can anyone confirm that 4:3 is definately the intended ratio.Dont want to order this if a nice widescreen version will turn up in the future
From the review here (http://www.dvdcult.com/rev_ninjascroll.htm) (Warning: SPOILERS)
NINJA SCROLL is presented in a full frame 1.33.1 transfer. That’s the way it was filmed, so no picture information is missing.
many thanks Sampath.Just what i was looking for. Cheers.
Theres also some ninja starts cut out at the start when attacking that first demon in the woods, you see some bounce off him, but before that you see the tree get cut to shreds by loads.
First time i see the cut version when it was on the other day, if you never seen the full version then you really wouldnt notice where the cuts take place.
