I was wandering around Oxford Street on Saturday, and couldn't resist. It does look good and I really like the menu (much better than the RAZR which I have got), but the battery life isn't great. And it could be me, but I don't find the touch screen that responsive.

How much did you pay for one Claims Monkey?

I like weighted phones like the LG Shine or Nokia 8800, this is fairly light and I keep thinking you can slide it up and you can't!!

I like the look of this phone, I'll be interested to see how well the screen performs and how responsive the scroll is, if its anything like the LG slide scroll I'll forget it :gag:

It looks a pretty good interface, but how will it compare to the Iphone when that gets released?

I might sell mine as i'm finding it difficult to text on it.

I thought texting might be difficult? One thing that put me off it. Is it sim free? how much are you looking for?

Dan

Yeah it's sim free by the looks of it, my orange and t-mobile sim both work.

Not sure how much it's worth though?

Got one of these on the weekend - fantastic phone. Nice fast interface. Sure, its not a smart phone but I'm not that fussed (hardly ever used the main bits of my N70).

Anyway, I ported my version of SFCave over to it plus a few tweaks for the touch screen. Its still got a couple of minor glitches (you have to press the left side button to restart the game after you crash unless you wait to return to the main main, and you have to use the on screen keyboard to move down the menu), but apart from them it works pretty well.

If you are interested, you can grab it from here (http://andyq.no-ip.com/download/SFCave.jar), Upload it to your phone using either bluetooth or the usb cable (put it the Others folder).

To install it, go to "My Stuff" - Others, highligh the SFCave item, select the menu and then select install.

Any comments welcome.

Note, this *should* work on most other phones (well, its been tested on my N70 and it worked fine) :)

Will an unlocked one accept a '3' sim?

M@rtin
07-06-2007, 10:59
It may accept it but you'll probably get 3 threatening to block your sim because it's not a 3G handset.

I've ordered it now but still have 9 months to go on my 3 contract so I'm hoping I'll be fine. Thanks for letting me know

Due to bargain forum deal Im bringing this back from dead :)

To check for firmware version (and other techie stuff like dead pixel checker) enter and call 2945#*# mines old (mar 2007)

So, anyone know how to upgrade firmware?

PC_Bod
01-12-2007, 15:24
Yeah I did the same, mine's March 07 firmware too.

Any updates knocking about?

Also, I've been trying to look for themes to download / install (Only 2 of the four are manly enough to use ;))....But its an absolute nightmare, trying to google for them and wade through the amount of bloomin 'reviews' and 'price comparison' sites.

Also, is there anyway of doing the following?

* Changing the text message tone to a custom one (other than the 4 supplied), either with updated or botched firmware or something
* Installing TomTom? (To use with a bluetooth GPS dongle thingy)

And what operating system does it use? I found one website claim it was using Symbian, with an Adobe Flash overlay for the GUI, but most sites just say 'N/A' for the Operating System.

If it is anything like the viewty, it is a Flash based GUI but has java for running j2me mobile apps.

PC_Bod

Yeah I know it runs Java apps, but the operating system is different isn't it?

so far I have nowt for this phone!

Firmware is my biggest issue as Im sure some of the small irritations could be ironed out in a newer firmware.

I have tried all of the .jar games my w850 and they all work (although sometimes the position of the keypad renders the game unplayable.

Ive also connected my wireless bluetooth headphones to it but the track playiong will not display but the other functions work a treat.

Im also getting quitegood at texting :)

Still not sure if im keeping it tho!

Steev

PS one thing that is winding me up are the poxy message tones, possibly the 4 worst tones in history - polychronic

PC_Bod
03-12-2007, 22:12
Yeah, thats a very very bad mistake on their part. I was limited to 15 crappy message tones on my old Samsung e800, in this day and age to limit it is just silly IMO.
