Just been to my local SONY center and to my complete supprise they actually have some good sale prices on the range of Sony DVD Players.

And the icing on the cake (for me anyway) was that the OFFICIAL Sony center had a region free upgrade for £20 sign on the wall near the players. The last thing I expected in a official store.

Anyhow, with this in mind, I wondered what the current opinion was on Sony DVD machines ?

Is there a Sweet Spot player.
You know, one that is excellent performance and priced good also. Without being cheap and crap or expensive as is ful of features you won't need.

Note: I'd want the very best output/s on the back to plug into a Videologic Digitheatre DTS.

Thoughts ?

Avoid the NS300. NS400 upwards are ok, but you can get better players for the money, such as a Tosh SD210e or Pioneer Dv444 :) Sony don`t mind the units being modded via the firmware hack remote, as this only makes it auto region. To get a full mod (macro off, manual and auto, rce, etc) you need to remove and reprogram the machines firmware ic, which then sony won`t touch the unit under warranty.
