This sounds like it could be very good (and very expensive....)
You know, a lot of the time, when I hear about a new game, I get "excited". It's a relative term, and one I normally use only in the context of gaming news. As in, I am more excited about this game than I am about other games. But this...this has me ******** kittens.
Harmonix, EA & MTV are teaming up to bring us Rock Band on 360 & PS3. Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos:
[Rock Band] takes the core premise of Guitar Hero and expands it tenfold. It lets you create a complete collaborative band.
What? How? It comes with 4 peripherals. Two guitars (lead & bass), a mic and a drum kit. So great. But wait. There's more. Because there's some serious financial clout behind this little venture, no more cover bands. It's going to feature the real deal. And not just the real deal: some record labels are already planning to release new content ( you know...songs) via this game, rather than radio or the internet.
No word on the individual songs, but we've got some artists: Allman Brothers, Joan Jett, Kansas, Nirvana and Wolfmother. Rigopulos says "We'll be covering a great breadth, from metal to classic rock to Southern rock to everything in between".
The game will be disc-based, but will also feature further downloadable content. And, as an extra treat, it'll feature online play. EA's David DeMartini says "You could have one guitarist in Germany and another one in Texas, a drummer in New York and a singer from somewhere else, and they can play together online".
OK, who's NOT freaking out about this? In case you can't do the math, this is SingStar and Guitar Hero, together, and will surely take over the entire planet. Nobody is safe. Unless EA can find some way to mess things up...or it ends up costing $200

It comes with two guitars, a mic and a drum kit? Mentalism. I do trust Harmonix, and I kind of expected something like this, but that doesn't seem practical in any way.
My brain is saying: APRIL FOOL.

I'll make a guess that the game will come with one instrument and the rest can be bought seperately. Still... Give me a Mic stand and a geetar and I'll be bounding around the front room in no time.

Electronic Arts has officially announced new PS3 and Xbox 360 title Rock Band, revealing that several key music publishers have already agreed to supply tracks for the game.

True, but Gamesindusty.biz had followed it up and are quoting things not on USA Todays story.
If it is an April Fool they could at least try something that isn't plausable. This idea for me is a natural progression from Singstar, Guitar Hero and Donkey Konga. Hasn't it been something that we've all said? "Wouldn't it be cool if you could play the guitar AND sing as well?"

Looks like it could be really good - especially forming a band online
It's my understanding that there's no GH3 on the way from its original creators because they're going for something bigger and this would sound more likely.

Gamestop have some accessories listed. Sounds like it could be one expensive game. I notice they've got a wireless guitar for the 360, I didn't think MS allowed that.
http://www.gamestop.com/search.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&Ntt=rock+band&N=0&find.x=0&find.y=0&find=Search
As others have commented (on Kotaku, I think), Gamestop's listings are probably entirely speculative and only in there so they beat everyone else to taking orders for it. The wireless 360 guitar is certainly bunkum.
This still reeks of a fake to me.
EDIT
Press release on EA Extranet site so obviously not.

Can't wait for this game.
Honestly, I'm more excited about Rock Band and Guitar Hero III/Encore: Rocks the 80s than games like Halo 3 at the moment - and I was only introduced to the brilliance of GH earlier in the year. Bring it on...
New information from Game Informer:
- One disk with 4 separate campaigns. Guitar, Drum, Bass and Vocal. Each can be played on its own from start to finish, in addition, a full band game is designed to allow for one huge co-op playthrough.
- Will feature full support for four player online play on both 360 and PS3. Any combination of on/offline play will work and each player can pick their own difficulty setting.
- Flexible community system will allow you to find bandmates anywhere in the world
- There will be a way for you to share your band's triumphs with the world, but the details are still under wraps.
- Musical fret-boards are now transparent so you can see more of the background visuals. Guitar is on the left side of the screen, Bass on the right and drums down the middle. Vocals scroll from right to left along the top of the screen.
- Guitars and Bass now have 10 frets. 5 for the regular sections of the game and 5 for the newly designated solo sections.
- Whammy bar is back as is the tilt to activate rock band's version of star power
- there is a five way switch on the guitar that allows for 5 different self-applied effects to the sound.
- Singing is now more in depth. There is a phoneme detector that will pick up individual vowels and consonants you say. Build up enough highly judged phrases and you'll be able to sing free-form. If you do well enough in free-form, then you'll trigger the vocalist's version of star power.
- Microphone doubles as a tambourine on many songs to combat super long guitar solos where the singer doesn't have much to do.
- Drums are apparently insane. You use actual sticks and hit one of four colored pads in front of you, in addition to a kick pedal attached to the drumming unit. Drummers will also have the ability to do fills etc. in their own little free-form section, do well and you'll trigger the drummers version of star power.
- If one person fails, the whole band does not fail, their section simply turns gray and they have to sit out the rest of the song unless one your band mates initiates star power, which will bring you back into the fold.
- If all bandmates can reach the end of a song, you'll be greeted with one huge free-form jam session.
- There will be a character creation system, and you can create multiple avatars that play different instruments.
- Four themed clothing stores in addition to licensed guitars and pedals and other rock paraphernalia.
- A full set of mo-cap stage movements have been added for each instrument. You can decide whether your vocalist moves like Axel Rose, or stands his ground like Clapton.
- 40 performance venues planned
- All peripherals will be unique to each platform. This isn't the developer's decision. Apparently MS peripherals require special circuit boards.
- You'll be able to craft your own band logo
- The HUD in the screens isn't final but is a good indication of what you can expect
- 4 songs announced in the article, not sure if this is new or old but whatever.
Weezer - Say It Ain't So - Original Master Track
Black Sabbath - Paranoid - Original Master Track
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again - Original Master Track
Nirvana - In Bloom - Original Master Track
INSTRUMENT DESCRIPTIONS
Sorry I can't post photos so my descriptions will have to suffice
Guitars/Bass
Guitars are an exact 3/4 replica of a Fender Strat.
Xplorer guitars will work for 360 owners, but you may not be able to pass on all the new stuff this model has.
Five familiar buttons near the top of the neck, five buttons near the body of the guitar. You will use these new buttons during specially designed solo sections using ONLY hammer ons and pull offs, no having to worry about your strum bar. Signature Fender 5-way switch has been added. By shopping at the in game store you'll be able to purchase several virtual effects pedals such as Flange, Wah, Chorus and Echo. These can be applied during your song by setting the 5 way switch to the desired effect.
Microphone
There will eventually be a Rock Band branded Mic
Other USB mics will be supported, but Harmonix will probably NOT allow the use of the 360 headset due to its low fidelity. Mics will be usable as tambourines during certain songs.
That's all for mics!
DRUMS
The picture of the drum peripheral in the mag is not final.
It consists of four pads, a kick pedal and legs for the enire unit to stand on. Think of it as a TV dinner tray stand only cooler
Leftmost pad (red) is your snare drum, everything else doubles as toms and cymbals depending on the song.
A set of real wooden drum sticks will ship with the unit.
A piece of the stand can be taken off so that the unit can sit lower, or on a coffee table.
There is a kick pedal
If you play drums in this game on hard or expert, then you're really playing the drums. Apparently you could sit down at a real set and play the same songs.

Heh.
This is sounding incredible!
Just wish they'd throw a keyboard in there as that's the actual instrument I can play in real life - although I've always said playing GH seems more like playing keyboard than what I imagine a real guitar to be.
Bring me my drums now!! (are they going to be diddy and wee and highly amusing?)
Microphone doubles as a tambourine on many songs to combat super long guitar solos where the singer doesn't have much to do.

Ditto to everyone else's comments - sounds flippin' brilliant!
The second set of five frets on the guitar controller sound a little redundant, as other than forcing you to move quickly between the two sets I can't see how they would work any different (apart from the solo set possibly being better placed to use both hands at once on them). I also hope there is an option to only show your instrument's fret board on the screen, as otherwise it could be a little cluttered with no real benefit to the single-player (or single person in the room).
Other than that though, it all sounds good.

"You will use these new buttons during specially designed solo sections using ONLY hammer ons and pull offs, no having to worry about your strum bar."
i think it means its going to be like tapping on a real guitar so you'll use you right hand (for right handed people) for that set of buttons?

I'd gladly pay £200 for the lot.
I'm optimistic they can get this more in the £100-150 ballpark.
What are guitar prices currently? £25-35 for PS2 and add a tenner for 360?
So, say £80-90 for 2 guitars, £40 for the drum kit and £10-20 for the mic?
Question is how much the game price affects things. I'm hoping not much, considering I and II solus on PS2 have pretty much consistently been £17.99 online.
Would I stretch to £200? Mm. Probably, considering how Guitar Hero has produced some of the Best Gaming Moments Ever.

From the looks of it, at the end of the song you just have to **** everything to make a cacophony. I always want to do that on GH2. Superb.
Response to this video from Harmonix:
Hey all
This video was taken from a conference where attendees are generally encouraged to be casual and show off the new stuff they are working on privately. Unfortunately, an attendee broke the conference rules and videotaped the talk. The footage was made from an old build of the game quite some time ago for internal purposes- basically to get people working on the game excited. The song was one we have considered for the game but haven't locked down, and you may have noticed that the footage was made so long ago that the people in the video are playing old instruments and prototypes. I guess what I am saying is- this isn't official and doesn't really reflect the final game at all. We'll be releasing a lot of info next week from much newer builds of the game with finalized songs.
Rock,

Loads of great new info has emerged on this one today...
I'm not entirely sure about the source on what I've quoted below (it's been posted on a few forums including the official Rock Band forum) but it appears to be accurate following info from the developers which came out during the EA Press Conference (<a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6174210.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;0">live blog</a>).
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--The Battle of the Bands is officially on. Yesterday, the Neversoft-developed Guitar Hero III revealed the python-enthused former Guns N' Roses fretter Slash would rock on a variety of unlockable guitars. Today, original Guitar Hero developer Harmonix fired back with the announcement that it will offer not just hit singles for gamers to play, but entire full-length albums from multiple labels.
The first band to receive the digital conversion will be classic British rockers The Who. Gamers will be able to form a virtual cover band playing guitar, hitting the drums, and singing along to the band's widely acclaimed 1971 album Who's Next. The album should hit soon after the game's release this fall, with new content planned on a weekly basis. For those a bit rusty on their classic rock, the full track list for the album follows:
The Who's Who's Next
: "Baba O' Riley"
"Bargain"
"Love Ain't for Keepin'"
"My Wife (Entwistle)"
"The Song Is Over"
"Getting in Tune"
"Going Movile"
"Behind Blue Eyes"
"Won't Get Fooled Again"
Harmonix also announced the first 15 songs from the retail edition of Rock Band. A glance at the list reveals a wide array of rock subgenres and decades represented, from David Bowie and Black Sabbath to The Hives and The Strokes. The first 15 songs from Rock Band are listed below, with the new songs in bold:
Artist - Song (asterisk indicates a cover version of a song): The Who -"Won't Get Fooled Again"
Mountain - "Mississippi Queen"*
David Bowie - "Suffragette City"
Black Sabbath - "Paranoid"*
Blue Oyster Cult - "Don't Fear the Reaper"
The Ramones - "Rockaway Beach”
Rush - "Tom Sawyer"*
Bon Jovi - "Wanted Dead or Alive"
Nirvana - "In Bloom"
Stone Temple Pilots - "Vasoline"
Weezer - "Say It Ain't So"
Foo Fighters - “Learn to Fly”
The Hives - "Main Offender"
The Strokes - "Reptilia"
Queens of the Stone Age - "Go With the Flow"
In the <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6174210.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;0">live blog</a> and a news piece on <a href="http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/802/802950p1.html">IGN</a> there is some additional info:
1) "Enter Sandman" by Metallica will also be on the retail release, with a "substantial amount of tracks" from the group planned for the title.
2) They aim to have 100 songs delivered by DLC in the first year.
3) They've setup a Music Advisory Board chaired by Steven Van Zandt to help with song selection.
First official pic of the drum-kit in the IGN news piece as well.
I'd never have expected whole albums, that's unbelievable and to get Metallica on board is some feat. Great selection of Rock songs there that should appeal to anyone who had a passing interest in GH.
All that remains is to hope for a decent pricing structure for the DLC.

Excellent link!
So.. where is the kick drum on the drum track?
So.. where is the kick drum on the drum track?
it's the long horizontal bar that stretches across the 'fret bar'
Ah, yeah - I see that now, cool!
It was nice to see a few different tracks played, as the two they've been demoing repeatedly in the past week really don't appeal all that much to me (one is a Bowie track, not sure about the other one, but they open this demonstration with it). The Bon Jovi and Black Sabbath tracks are a lot more to my taste.
Do we know what "Tug of War" is in multiplayer?

No way it'll cost that much, it'd be cheaper to buy real gear for that kind of moolah. I'm sure he mentioned $70-100, they're just working out bundles and what to include. Maybe they'll release different sets depending on who wants to do what in the career so that we can pick-n-mix in a way. I'm not too interested in the singing side but would pay £150 tops for the game with drums and guitar.
He didn't mention any prices, they haven't discussed it yet

I take it you cant play guitar and sing at the same time as it looks like you need to shake the mike during the solos etc. Hope there is a option to do this. I was going to make a custom mike stand out a old Ikea floor standing light I had.

I'm guessing those prices are for Game and Guitar at Amazon (based on GH2 RRP) and Game only at HMV.
I think the game will launch stand-alone for £40 RRP (£30 online), all peripherals available seperately, and there'll be a Game and Guitar bundle for £70 (£60), and maybe a full set and game bundle too.
In other words, I don't think either are bargains, but I might have to order just in case I'm wrong :)

I really like the look of this game (especially the drums), but I played a demo of guitar heroes before (on joypad) but found it impossible hard/fast (Playing a real guitar seemed way easier in comparison!). Do the peripherals make the game a lot easier or am I just too slow for this type of game. :(

Look at it this way; $800 for a game would be commercial suicide, and doubly so as it's an MTV game: they'll want it to appeal to their demographic, so will be looking to make it relatively cheaply. It'll probably cost a couple of hundred bucks for the entire game and peripheral set, but no way 800 dollars.
No way. Hozay.

sorry if this has been mentioned before, but can you use the GH guitar with rock band then? I thought the Rock Band one had more buttons, so you'd ideally need the one supplied. If not then cool. The RB strat has the same 5 buttons repeated higher up on the neck, for solos that you can finger tap, the only other difference to the GH2 and GH3 controllers is a 5 way rocker switch for the various effects (flange, chorus, reverb). Nothing has been said but the GH3 controller like the GH2 xplorer also has the mystery footswitch socket. Could this be an avenue for the rumoured foot switch for the GH2 and GH3 controllers? I have seen Roland (makers of Boss foot pedals) are one of the licenses used in RB.
good god do people still think that companies still use $1 = £1 in the gaming market?
go and check the US prices vs UK prices (don't forget to add the vat to US prices ;) )
they are nowhere near $1 = £1
Shamelessly copied from elsewhere
US costs:
Wii - $249
DS - $129
360 Core - $299
360 Premium - $399
360 Elite - $479
PS3 - $499
PSP - $169
UK costs:
Wii - £179 (£152 Ex VAT, $296)
DS - £95 (£80 Ex VAT, $156)
360 Core - £189 (£160 Ex VAT, $312)
360 Premium - £279 (£237 Ex VAT, $462)
360 Elite - £329 (£280 Ex VAT, $546)
PS3 - £425 (£360 Ex VAT, $702)
PSP - £129 (£109 Ex VAT, $212)
Wii - 19% more
DS - 21% more
360 Core - 5% more
360 Premium - 16% more
360 Elite - 14% more
PS3 - 41% more
PSP - 25% more
the PS3 is the big culprit but they have dropped price/are clearing stock in US...
if it is $199 in Us (big if) I would expect price here to be around £129

Rock Band is, without doubt, the game I was most looking forward to playing this year, so this news is a total bummer for me.
That said, GH III's playlist seems to go from strength to strength with each new announcement from Neversoft, so it's not all bad.

Metallica up to their old tricks again:
http://www.dailygaming.net/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=230
Lars can kiss my ass!
Read it again mate. It's clearly a wind-up:
Metallica is fearful that album sales could decline if their fans were able to simply walk into any Gamestop or Best Buy and purchase an $80 video game that contained one of their songs.
"We don't understand why Metallica would turn around and sue us, unless they've gone from insane completely bat**** insane since 2001, but we're confident that the law and our contracts will be enough to have this thrown out."
The band infamously blamed file-sharing programs, which were quickly rising in popularity at the exact same time that Metallica was quickly disappearing from the mainstream consciousness, for the decline in their records, believing that it was Napster, not their own douchebaggery, that stopped fans from buying their albums.

Creep will be a great song to play.
Localised content though, I'm not sure I like that. Sure if you're oblivious to the internet and what's being released in other territories it won't matter, but for people like us posting on internet forums everyday it's got the potential to really annoy as you learn your favourite song is released in X region and you can't get at it.

I don't like the delay and i think the sound of localising the tracks could be bad if they decide to release certain songs in certain territories.
OK GO Here it goes again! :notworthy I wonder if they'll be a wireless treadmill option?
Localised content clarified <a href="http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=3345">here</a> on the official forums. I'll cut and paste...
When we say that the European release of Rock Band will have localized content it DOES NOT mean that we are stripping out our main songs and replacing them with European songs. It means Europe will be getting extra songs on their disc of content localized to their language so they can have a little extra fun if they feel so inclined.
Sounds like the main song-list will the same world over, but with the delay in getting the game to Europe they're going to add some European songs as added bonus content on the disc (Rammstein please!).
Not sure how it's going to affect DLC though.
In other news IGN have a report up which makes the latest guitar prototype sound much better. They also have some videos of them playing a few of the new songs, though at most they're about 25-30 seconds long which is just stupid.

 at the guy murdering Dead or Alive
Also, I wonder if that's a generic mic stand or if it's available to buy
hehe yeah, a huge gripe I have with gamespot and ign when I watch videos of them playing these games is a) they're all crap at them (I can forgive the vocals, but guitar?) and b) they show about 25-30 seconds max.
Gametrailers now have a bunch of stuff up of some capable players demonstrating the game and they've done a good job mixing together the game graphics and video of the people playing, but again they're 35-seconds long max. They've got some vids showing the drums on expert but what I'd really like to see is the guitar on Hard/Expert to get a feel of how challenging the game will be, as my biggest fear so far is them going for these ensemble piece songs which look a bit dull on the guitar. Obviously there are exceptions, but the songs Harmonix have insisted on demonstrating ad nauseum don't impress me from a guitar POV.
1UP/Gamevideos have a well put together video as well, 3mins long though sadly it's a compilation of different songs. Well produced as always though.

On the upside I read this at Gaming Excellence (http://www.gamingexcellence.com/xbox360/games/839/p20070907.shtml):
What I was most impressed about though, is how the strum key doesn't click like the old Guitar Hero ones do. This one is as quiet as a pin drop, leaving you to only hear to triumphant sounds of your rock instead of an incessant clicking sound.
which is great as I've had just about enough of the dreadful clacking the X-Plorer makes.
that's excellent news

Hmm Dani California :| I'd preferred "By The Way" Anyhow, shame this not coming out soon, I suspect lots of people might copy Phil Collins and get a Gorilla suit and put it on youtube!
I'm in NYC for release date :) Reckon I can get a drum kit, and 2 wireless guitars into my case? Thinking I should get the PS3 version as it'll be region free. Would probably prefer the 360 version though if that declares itself region free before release.
A preview on <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200709/N07.0914.1002.29748.htm">Game Informer</a> is probably the best (well, only one) I've read regarding the single-player game. It backs up my concerns over the single-player game for Guitar Hero fans - ie. it won't be very challenging due to the song selection and probably even a little boring.
For a while now I've been of the opinion that for the single-player gamer, this is very much "Drum Hero" or "Karaoke Hero" depending on your preference, as for solo guitar players it doesn't seem to offer much.
I still think it'll be fun initially (just to play new songs), and the DLC plans could offer single-player guitar heroes a work out depending on what is offered.
The videos on that page are pretty good as well. Nice to see it in single-player mode <i>and</i> expert difficulty.

From my Guitar Hero experience, my enjoyment of the game has never come from how challenging the song is but rather how much I like the song itself (for example, I never touch the last set on GH2 because every song is a pile of ****, as well as being very difficult). So what you're saying is not an issue for me at all.

For me, the enjoyment from this game will be playing tracks I like, but more importantly, playing them with friends.
There are too many tracks on co-op in GH2 where the rythym/bass part is just boring to play - hopefully that won't be the case in RB.
That preview mentioned only going 1/3 through the setlist, seeing as (I think) there are tracks still left to be announced, and I didn't see whether they were playing on expert, I still think this will offer a challenge for lead guitar.
Anyone else decided which version they will be buying? For me it's looking like PS3 - wireless outta the box, no need to have an account to play online, DLC content listed in £ instead of MS Moon-money.

Of course I agree you need to like the songs you're playing, but without any challenge (and the sense of achievement you get from overcoming said challenge) I think half the fun is lost. If it was simply about playing songs you enjoy and getting 100% without any efffort we'd all play on Easy.
My saying the game will be boring is probably a little harsh, but I do think GH3 will offer the better single-player experience for lead guitar players.

They're playing on expert, see the 2nd paragraph. The videos show expert mode as well.

I'll be picking up the 360 version for achievements, guitar compatibility and friends on my friends list (rarely use my PS3 for games so no friends on it).

A very fair price, good news.
I played this a couple of days ago (a Bon Jovi track, can't remember which one), doubt i've got anything to add that hasn't already been picked upon in previews but here goes anyway.
The guitar definitely felt of a better build than those with Guitar Hero, best of all was that strumming was completely silent. Maybe i'm just too heavy 'thumbed' but on GH it just clicks, clicks, clicks and clicks. There was no way i was going to sing infront of all my colleagues whilst sober but in retrospect maybe i should have chosen the drums so i could experience something new.
I'm certainly no expert at GH but i have completed the games on Medium and quite a few on Hard over GH1&2 but i died on stage when i first had a go. I haven't played GH in a while but Rock Band seemed extremely unforgiving and it was only on Medium! I'm sure the spot light above my monitor didn't help though, honest! Had another go but on Easy and i managed to get through the performance with a 90% score. I didn't use any of the solo buttons nor could i really pay any attention to any of the other players or onscreen indicators such was my concentration on not trying to embarass myself.
After each track it rates each player, the vocalist scored lowest in our group with about 65%, i'm not sure if there is an option to add some kind of weighting/handicapping to the scoring but the bassist got over 95% which is hardly surprising given that he barely had anything to play - nothing in the opening minute or so.
I did get to try out GHIII too, which was pretty much more of the same, not that that's a bad thing.
I'm not sure whether i'll order the US version for PS3 and ask my family to contribute to the cost, like they did when they imported GH for my us ps2, or just wait for the UK release - which the EA rep just said would be 'after Xmas but in the next 6 months'. Has anyone read if there will be any problems buying DLC from the UK PSN store to run on the US version of the game? I don't think there will be but then i suppose i could just setup a US PSN acount if there was.
Preordered the US PS3 version with an extra guitar from Gamestop. Price for postage seems pretty good :)

Good preview on the career mode over at <a href="http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/puzzle/rockband/news.html?sid=6181200&tag=topslot;title;2&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot">Gamespot</a>.
I've always been less enthusiastic about this one than most (see my earlier posts) but after reading this my interest level rose considerably. The different options available to you during the career, being able to make your own setlists and incorporate songs from DLC, all sounds very cool and my interest level is now up there with everyone else I think.

PlexShaw
18-10-2007, 15:59
The singing works much like SingStar - it's all about the pitch, so you could sing, say, I Think I'm Paranoid by Garbage at a higher or lower octave then Shirley Manson and still be able to pass the song. As is the case with Sony's game, the higher difficulty settings require you to be more accurate with your pitch.
The only difference between Rock Band and SingStar is that the Rock Band microphone has a phoneme detector meaning that you cannot get away with mere humming.

No online world tour is a major disappointment.
Maybe when/if Home ever gets sorted out, they could add that function through the Sony service?

Yeah but, but, but, but I started the official thread! :D
I'm not sure whether to import this or not. I'm almost certainly going to be playing this on my own the majority of the time, so do i really need the entire kit? On the other hand it will allow me to play online using different instruments each time. And my son is 20 months, so i'm sure he can make a stab at the drums. :)
Does anyone know if there is likely to be problems using the US game with UK PSN DLC? VG+ don't appear to have it listed yet nor Tronix. I haven't used any other US/Canadian import sites before. Do Gamestop and Amazon.com deliver to the UK? I thought they only shipped to US military bases or something like that. Gamestop are $30 cheaper too.
Announced on ScoreHero, the 'Entire Setlist' option:
In addition to sharing our impressions of Rock Band, we are proud to announce a brand new feature in Rock Band that will involve playing the entire setlist from start to end without having the chance to back out. We are not allowed to mention how many songs are in the game, or what you will get for completing the grueling task. But you'd better be prepared to spend nearly an entire working-day rocking out non-stop to get this notch under your belt!
Also there's a a large thread with multiple impressions on the game:

If that's the case, I may well go for GH 3 with the wireless and use those on this.

It's still unclear whether or not the wireless GH guitar will work with Rock Band. Wireless RB guitars for 360 will be available, just not with the initial bundle release. Best bet is to wait and see how the US release pans out.

Looks like the bundle won't, but you can buy them separately: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=83027
Of course, since unbundled instruments are only to be available in 2008, it might make sense not to import and buy when it comes out in Europe: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=85344
Personally, I'll have at least one wireless GHIII guitar (see GHIII thread for impressions on how good they are) and will wait to get more info on Rock Band before deciding what to buy.

How much is that going to be, inc delivery & customs?
Gamestop charge a flat-rate of $15.99 for shipping to UK, and for this game there is an additional $9.99 surcharge on all orders due to size/weight. So...
$169.99 + $15.99 + $9.99 = $195.97 (approx £95.52)
They ship via UPS in my experience (only used them once), so...
£95.52 + 3.5% Customs = £98.86 + 17.5% VAT = £116.16 + £11 UPS Fee = £127.16
Total = £127.16
I think that's right.
Better place my order then. :)

£128? That is very tempting indeed..
It keeps saying that there is an error when I fill out the payment address bit. Quadruple checked and nothing is wrong. Any obvious issues I may be screwing up?
Phoned up the helpline in the US (why is it that the US customer services are so much better than the UK?). Was infirmed that their system couldn't verify my card but suggested I try their affiliate Barnes & Noble instead.

EDIt: this reminds me of my more carefree youthful days when I would spend £500 just for one game
You'll always look back upon those rent-boy-days-and-disposable-income with fondness i guess.
I was charged $35.99 for 'Handling' (shipping) though...? Thought it should have been $25.99 or $30.99 at most - by my maths, admittedly i have been drinking tonight though. That and i 'found' a discount code online lying round on the net which gave me $10 off, so they probably just added that back into the postage.
