Just read this in the HiFiBitz description of the SR4200:
It is capable of downconverting multichannel digital sources and makes the signal available in stereo via the digital output.
I could understand it if it just talked about downconverting to stereo, but what's all this about making the signal available via the digital output? If I get this amp I may well be listening to DVDs in stereo until I get a 5.1 speaker set up, but I can't tell if the statement above is offering me anything I might use or not!

They are saying that it will convert the signal to 2 channel PCM for outputting via the digital out for use with stuff like minidiscs. To be honest downmixing 5.1 to stereo won`t really benefit you at all, you might as well run your DVDs in stereo until you can get your 5.1 speaker setup:)
Incidently, check the bargain forums for this reciever for £250, rather then Hifibitz price of £290 :D

JThanks, Justin. DVD Forums bargain-power had already ensured I knew about homecinemaheaven's better price for the SR4200! HiFiBitz came up when I did a a search on Yahoo! for online reviews.
Sadly, after months of obsessing about amp depth and whether or not I could squeeze this or that model into my TV cabinet, I've just realised the SR4200 is too damn HIGH! Back to the drawing board...

No Probs, but thats a shame really as theres nothing to tough it for that price:( Think the Yamaha RXV420RDS is a little slimmer, but the only really slim amp would be the Pioneer VSXC300, and its not a patch on the Marantz...

If I may join in here, I'm thinking of getting the 4200 or 5200, but have a couple of questions.
The Marantz brochure states that these models do not have the facility to adjust the delay time. As my speakers would be oddly positioned (ie I won't be sitting an equal distance from them), is this a drawback? Secondly, what is the 6.1 channel input for on the 5200?
You can certainly configure the speaker distance on the 5200 using the OSD- I read into this (and from doing so on mine) that this adjust level AND delay. My rears are REAL close to the setaing position too.
The 6.1 input would be used for a future format - or for SACD etc...just future proofs the box somewhat....

You can select the spkr distance on the 4200 as well
