If they do this as well as they did the Star Wars games then this would rock.

If they do this as well as they did the Star Wars games then this would rock.

Very much so - the Star Wars games are highly enjoyable so more is very welcome; the Batman universe, whilst smaller in scope, should make for an entertaining setting as well.

Assuming it's the same team who worked on Lego Star Wars then this should be cool.

Nothing to do with any of the films, its based on the comics themselves, but with an original 'story'.

I'd rather they waited until they had finished the Harry Potter movies to go a Lego game which could then cover all 7 films.

I keep wondering if we'll see another Lego Star Wars title. With Clone Wars in cinemas in the summer and then the TV show following that up there has to be plenty of material in there to mine?

It's a real shame that Lego don't hold the Spider-Man licence anymore, that would have been AWESOME!

Cheers,

Ryan

Terribly_Mauled

Been playing this for about half an hour, so far so good. Nice to see they've worked harder on reducing tearing. There are still spots of it but it's nowhere near as bad as Star Wars. I think Indy slightly improved upon it. The environments do look nice and I like the addition of changeable outfits for Batman and Robin which enable to do specific things.

Gameplay also threw in a free Lego Batman keychain :D

Just played through the first three levels and already enjoying this much more than Lego Indy. I was worried that the lego games were already getting tired & couldn't really face Indy again after completing the story-mode, but this has enough new features to keep it fresh & entertaining. The backdrops are much better graphically, the puzzles/different suits are decent & just the whole Burton vibe with the music/looks gets a big  from me.

Would this be good for my 7 year old son?

to echo what others have said - my kids are 5 and 7 and love the Lego Games, just ideal for them. They have played Star Wars Lego, first in individual games on the Xbox, and then on the 360 as the whole saga, and still play it now! Indy was good too, bought Batman for them for Xmas.

Due to the "drop in / drop out" play its ideal for family gaming too, you can sit down and join in with them, and then drop out when there are more important things to do around the house ;) And they are not just "mindless" games either - there's a bit of problem solving, and co-operation etc.

So great for your son and you too!

well all the lego games are fun, but yes, Indy was limited. Only three parts. I'm surprised they didn't try and fit in Indy 4 given the release date was so close to the new movie. Batman is much more like Star Wars. You get six full levels of 5 stages each - and you can play as the villains. I've gotten hours worth of gameplay just from going through the main story (6-8 I'd say so far) and it's a lot of fun. It's just a shame that there's no online side.

Cut scenes are great too, very funny. especially Catwoman's :D

better than Lego Indy - some nice new ideas and very colorful - from this point of view reminds me of bioshock!

Has the v-sync option same as Indy - so you can stop screen tearing as it locks fps lower.

Moldiver
10-10-2008, 19:56
You don't need to use V-sync at all. I've done the entire campaign now and noticed next to no tearing. It's the most polished looking game yet.

Don't like:

Very impressed. Loads of variation and different enough from StarWars and Indy to keep things interesting.

couple of freezes on Wii - its been played for over 10 hours though...

Anyway - the best lego game IMO, great design, i like the suits for batman and robin and the fighting seems more directed this time - rather than a mass button mash. Also the boomerang on the wii version is very nice (aim the thing using the wii remote pointed at the screen).

100% all done :D Some of those mini kits are a nightmare to find.

Mostly a smooth run. Had a couple of glitches. One mini kit level the locator was telling me to hit these 3 boards, which I did but nothing happened. Reset and tried again with all features turned off and it worked. Also froze during the same level but on a boss section. Overall though hours of fun and I enjoyed getting the 1000 points :P

Couldn't tell you exactly tbh. I'd say the main story took 6-8 hours. Surely not much more than 20 hours overall. Once you get enough cash to buy the mini kit and lego brick detectors you're pretty much laughing. You'll need to do the villain chapters to find the required red bricks though, which also include the snazzy multipliers.

Far better than Indy but I've had some more crashing / freezing issues.

Flight of the Bat crashes every time in co-op - fine in single player.

I've pulled a few levers to open doors (to get to minikits) which open in the short cut-scene, but are still closed afterwards - means you have to re-do the whole level just to get a minikit.

Yesterday when my girlf dropped out of co-op it came up with a weird message saying there is no profile signed in so progress won't be saved. Managed to get the x4 multiplier as well!!

But a brilliant game - at 78% at the moment.

The most annoying bit for me was the 2-d scrolling bit, due to a couple of well-hidden coins (make sure to smash as much as possible, even the main walkway, such as grey blocks in front of the springy sections). If you're stuck on the hovercraft bit though the only advice I can give is to drive real slow.

Took me three attempts at the 2-d section to find out I'd missed the final 2 coins. I found it helped to go through with a shooting character, as they auto target anything that can be destroyed.

Spot on, and I found don't use any "cold" characters like Penguin or Freeze as they skate very fast on the slope. Hard right for 1st 2, then switch characters and hard left to get the middle and left 2.

Even knowing how to do it took about 10 attempts and so frustrating you have to do so much to get to it.

I never switched characters. The main reason I couldn't do it is because I never noticed the gates on the left until the third attempt and then did it a couple of go's after that.

I found don't use any "cold" characters like Penguin or Freeze as they skate very fast on the slope. Hard right for 1st 2, then switch characters and hard left to get the middle and left 2.agreed on strategy, but oddly enough i got it on my third try with exactly those two characters. i fluffed the third gate but the NPC drifted across behind me, went through it and it registered!

anyway, loved this game and finished it last night about an hour after getting 100%. left wayne manor and co-op until last. couldn't persuade the wife to help with the co-op so had to use two controllers myself - japanese-ikaruga-gamer-style (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZEGyrEnXrk) (i wish!).

needed to go back through the mario-esque section twice to get enough studs. definitely agree with advice above to use a character with guns and then bomb everything.

probably all "legoed-out" now having played all three titles in the last five months. didn't affect my enjoyment of this one though, and i would rate it ahead of lego indy (which was still great) but behind star wars: tcs. a relatively easy 3000 achievement points too.

Moldiver
28-10-2008, 17:58
that's weird. I suppose it worth trying to rescue a hostage again and see if it does anything. You'll still find them on levels even though you've saved them. These lego games can be really odd at times. For instance I've read of people getting everything in the game and not getting an achievement, to which the simple solution is by playing through any one chapter to unlock it.

rustybin
28-10-2008, 18:09
Just tried that - no luck.

Also, on the level select screen, all my hostages/civilians have got smiley faces so the only way to get it is to start a new game, which I'm not going to do. I can live without the 25 points!

and its 20 or so charachters to scroll through rather than HPs 8. (with all the various batman and robin types)

i'll do it as not got anything better to do but its just a bit dull.

So did I but the Lego characters look nothing like their counterparts. I just didn't feel the connection as much as the other HP games.

Think I finished the Batman levels but didn't bother doing the villian ones purely down to boredom. Much better than Indy though.

Freeplay on HP was much shorter than Story Mode.

thats true, some levels took about 5 mins max. on batman freeplay and replay story appear identical.
