Folks, anyone know the DVD aspect ratio of above film? Seems to be some conflicting reports - DVD Profiler has it at 1.33:1 and the IMDB have it at 1.66:1

Anyone got the disc and can confirm the O.A.R?

The OAR of the film is 1.66:1. The region 1 is 1.33:1, but there is a French version available which, according to a review, is 1.66:1 but non-anamorphic.

...the DVDRama review talks of the 'Benelux' release (note it has optional Dutch subtitles - none in English, though)...

...the French French release (which is not -yet?- for sale, but for rental only) is anamorphic 1.66:1, and has no subtitles in any language, not even French...

...anamorphic or not, full-screen or not, this 'film' is merdique from beginning to end - IMNSHO, of course!

. . . :D . . .

And a side note; the accurate translation is "F(-word) Me". It was changed to "Rape Me" due to fears over Britains' sensitve disposition!:D

Since the film is now banned from French cinemas, it's not just us who are being sensitive!

Is it really banned? I heard that it first got an X certificate for exhibition only in porn cinemas. This caused a kerfuffle, so the culture Minister resurrectexd the old 18 certificate that was superceded by X in the 70s. Anyone know owt?

The picture quality on the 4:3 US release is pretty ropey and the compositions do appear to be a bit out at times. However, much of this could easily be in the filming rather than the transfer.

The way I heard it, Baise moi was originally given a "16" rating, the same as other non-porn films containing hardcore sex (e.g. Romance). Protests followed, and the censor changed the rating to an "18", which is normally reserved for porn.

Incidentally, the OFLC (Australian censor) has given Baise moi a R 18+ certificate without any cuts. (Only a couple of years ago, the OFLC rather notoriously came unstuck over hardcore sexual material in non-porn films, when it found it couldn't classify Romance. The resulting fuss caused the OFLC to liberalise the R rating to allow hardcore sex, hence allowing Ai no corrida to be classified for the first time, uncut.)
