Hi all,
First off appologies for the advert-esque post, but my boss is all uppity about "viral" marketing today, and wants me to shout about our new product - Link Removed.

It's a service for your mobile that, firstly, automatically backs up the contents of your phone (contacts, pictures, texts etc), and then if your phone supports it, can lock the phone, wipe all the data and set off a screaming alarm if it's stolen or lost. Even if you remove the SIM and put the battery back in, it still screams, and can't be turned off until you call in and deactivate it.

Very useful if you've got a load of important contacts, or a shedload of pictures that live on your phone, and unlike other backup services, this works via GPRS, rather than using SyncML and text messages to backup stuff.

Again, sorry for the advert/post, but hey, it's mobile related, and might be of interest to a few people here. If you have any questions about it, I'll try and answer them here.

So if the 'lock and scream' is triggered by an encoded text message, it must be something that all manufacturer's already support? So if you knew this code you could trigger it yourself?

No - the text message activates part of the program that gets installed on the phone, it's this that activates the alarm - I presume by flashing the firmware on the phone, but don't quote me on that. ;)
