According to Ain't it Cool News (http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=11209) Collin Chou will be Jet Li's replacement in The Matrix sequels. How reliable can this be as a source of information?
Collin Chou also appears in Jet Li's The Defender and Hong Kong Legends (http://www.hongkonglegends.co.uk/films/prod36redwolf.htm) forthcoming Red Wolf.

I read somewhere that he decided not do it because it would mean being away from his family to long.

That was the reason why he refused to do the first one.
Hmmmmm, actors have to make the odd sacrifice for being paid bucketloads of gold don't they?
Poor lad :(

I heard that he was never actually cast in the first place because the money that they offered him was only around $4 million - which is a total insult considering not only what Reeves is getting, but also because Jet would guarantee massive box office all across Asia and would easily be the biggest name in the movie. But he (quite rightly) apparently wanted around $12 million but Joel Silver couldn't match it.
Damn shame.

Like dangermouse said above money is the reason. He should be getting more considering what everyone else will be getting. On the flip side though, someone made a good point in another forum about the money thing...
"IT'S REALLY SAD TO SEE JET MAKE SUCH AN OBVIOUS CAREER MISTAKE...
He bails out on the one of the most anticipated and already established trilogies in film history just because he's not getting paid enough. So what if the Matrix only pays him a million or two. He gets paid ten million and goes out and makes **** like 'The One' that nobody sees. He just passed out on the opportunity to make himself likeable to all genres of film fans, not just kung-fu action film fans. This decision will hurt him noticeably within the U.S. His involvement in the Matrix would have immortalized him. If he keeps bombing his title movies with **** like Tromeo Must Die and Kiss of My Dragon Balls, he's going to start losing American audiences here really quick. The guy has the most amazing moves I've ever seen, would somebody please throw him a good script!? Oh yeah, they did, the Matrix. In the meantime he's out in production to make A Monk In NY, an idea Bruce Lee had 25 yrs ago that ended up going into the hands of David Carridine. Wake up Jet, money aint everything, make us **** out pants with some finer movies!"
