View Full Version : PS2 Component Cable
I'm using a official PS2 component cable on a Aldi 32" LCD HDTV
Plugged it in and jaggy heaven! Any way to adjust the picture (480i I think I get on games) or is it just the PS2 games?

I think a few games may have a 1080i option, other than that its just a case of the TV resolution being too good for what the PS2 can output.

Could you do me a massive favour and let me know if DVDs have a green tint on playback?
I know it does this on RGB but wondered if component is different. :)

Even with progressive scan, most PS2 games look a bit wrong on HDTV's
Shadow of Collosus is probably one of the better looking PS2 games, but blown up to 50" on my Panny PHD8, it doesn't exactly look great.

Final Fantasy XII looks awful, would a component cable make any improvement or would the difference not be vast?

Oh God... I've just got myself a new 32" LCD and started playing Final Fantasy XII on it... it's totally ruining my gaming experience. Ridiculously jaggy.
There is an xploder disc that apparently forces all games into an hd signal (I think at the cost of having to use it as a boot disc) - was thinking about spending 20 quid on it but wondered if anyone else had tried it?

Do a quick Google search for reviews of said Xploder product and it appears it's universally derided as being very poor. Apparently though the PS3 does a decent job of up-scaling old PS2 games.
Shame I don't plan on getting a PS3.

I got a component cable recently and it's improved the picture hugely over RGB on my LCD. However, ICO doesn't seem to work. That's one of the games I was most looking forward to seeing over component.

I've stopped playing it and am about to trade it it it looks so shoddy. Widescreen? Prog scan? What is this, 1994?

Does it get rid of jaggy edges and pixelation? I've seen comments that says it makes them show up all the more.

I think it looks far better. I've got the sharpness down as low as possible. I guess it depends if you are comparing it to the 360 or the PS3 or the PS2 via RGB.
I have to say I don't think PS2 games look THAT bad on an LCD tv, sure there's jaggies but nothing that ruins the experience for me as I forget them pretty quickly.

Eugh... I see what you mean. I just tried my copy and the picture was an absolute blocky mess. I was worried about Shadow Of The Collossus also but checked it out and it fortunately has a progressive scan mode, so looks pretty sweet all said!
I think the US version is ICO has Prog Scan?

Sadly I'm playing the UK version on a UK PS2. :(
If the US version does indeed have Progressive Scan then I may have to pick it up whenever I get a US PS3. Thanks for the info! :)

It seems to vary from game to game. Final Fantasy XII looks truly hideous to the point of not being able to see what's going on at times. Like watching a YouTube video (or RealPlayer stream!).
Conversely, Final Fantasy X looks fairly nice - although I have the NTSC version. Can anybody with the US/Japanese version of FFXII say if it looks good on an LCD screen?

My TV litteraly wont read the signal at all. It tells me I need to put a compatible signal in. Every other game I've tried so far works fine and looks great.

Oh, I see... I do get a picture, but like I say, it's uglier than... a really ugly thing!
Very strange that you're getting nothing through it at all...

I get the same thing on some wii virtual console games. I have to switch to compo**** to play them.

I think thats down to the TV rather than the console because i've got 7 Virtual Console games and they all play fine over Component at 480p.

Yes it is, just the same as the reason that ICO won't play. however, it's still odd why some games work and others don't.
