View Full Version : O2 Wireless Festival 2007
Apparently the headliners are:
Thursday:The White Stripes
Friday: Faithless
Saturday: Daft Punk
Sunday: Kaiser Chiefs.
This is for Hyde Park so I would imagine more or less the same for Leeds.
Tickets go on sale on the 16th March :)
Hopefully they'll be giving away free tickets like they have done for the past couple of years

Thirded ;)
I was gutted a couple of years ago when I paid full price only for loads of people to get freebies, and then not being able to get into the tents. The sound quality was really poor too, so doubly disappointed.
But I enjoyed my freebie to see the Raconteurs last year - hopefully I can manage the same for The White Stripes this time around.
In answer to adster's 'tell me more'
In 2005 there was a 'competition' to win tickets on either GetLive or the O2 site. Pretty much everyone won tickets, and a lot got 4 tickets for every night.
In 2006, there was a free (single) ticket for one night if you signed up for the GetLive newsletter. Myself and my wife managed to get one via this route.
But as I understand it from overhearing other people at the gig last year, there were loads given away via other routes to various companies, presumably those with something to do with the promoters or O2. The business model of the festival seems to be less to do with the ticket price, more promoting O2 and what they can charge the stall holders inside.
Of course, there is always the risk it will sell out by conventional means, but it has not done so before now afaik

Definitely going to be on the look out for Daft Punk/CSS and White Stripes/QotSA freebies ;)
Even if you can't get tickets free the touts will be selling them for about £5 each if you haggle as eveyone else will have freebies!
Mind you as shall put in the first request for anyones spare ticket if they can't make it and get a freebie...
This looks pretty good - especially as I'm looking forward to the new White Stripes album a lot. Nice to see some middle-level breaking through acts like Editors and The Cribs there too. Whether I can get a free ticket or not I'll be there for a couple of days at least :)
Wow! White Stripes and QOTSA on the same bill? I'm there.
...if I wasn't abroad that week. Damn holidays. :|
Anyone who's going to buy a ticket on the 16th has no reason to moan when the freebies start flying around as you've all been warned that that's what will probably happen...

got mine dirt cheap on ebay. Sold me flaming lips tickets for about £30 each and get two tickets for the fest for £10 each. Saw the flaming lips, eels, the who... someone else...?!
The free ticket malrkey was only for london as far as I know. Leeds is a smalller site so I guess that didn't feel the need to give any away. I may go with the 2 for 1 option for the White Stripes day and see what ebay bringds for the Kaiser Chiefs day

Haven't been to this before but looks like it could be interesting, won't bother buying tickets but might try to pick up one for free if possible.
I assume since it's prone to lots of free tickets, the festival itself is jam-packed full of people?

Fairly big queues for beer and food but otherwise fine. I found I could easily get a lot closer to the main stage at this than I ever could for a headliner at Glastonbury.

Yeah I found that as well - I had a great spot for the Raconteurs at last year's. Plus the vibe was a bit more relaxed - maybe 'cos you're daytripping rather than camping you don't have to worry about your tent and your stuff.

How do you usually obtain free tickets for this event, do you have to be on a o2 network?
I think O2 run competitions and that for their subscribers. I don't know how many free tickets are up for grabs tho'

Maybe. But in previous years the freebies have been very close to the gigs (in the last couple of weeks).
Probably worth waiting, as even if there are no freebies, I doubt very much whether any dates other than perhaps The White Stripes/QotSA will sell out

Judging by the number of adverts around Leeds concentrating on the Sunday and the amount of tickets they are giving away (my mate got 20) I'd agree that the Daft Punk day tickets aren't moving much. Looks like New Pornographers have pulled out of the Friday now which sucks. I may have to pay £45 just to see The White Stripes.

Trouble is if they give a stack load away free this year then even fewer people will pay good advance money next year.
They would be better off just sticking the whole load on ebay for £5 up to whatever people will pay. Or bite the bullet and just make the whole event free!
But they've done it for the last two years so I doubt this one will be any different.

In the new Live Nation email they are offering a White Stripes ticket plus their new LP for £43.99 with no booking fee. Which isn't a bad deal considering everywhere else its £40 plus £5 booking fee for just the ticket. Well I thought it was good enough to buy one. Now i've been offered 2 weekend tickets for free. You can get Leeds tickets for £26 from a site called leedstickets.com. or something simlar. No idea if there any good...
On a side note: No Modest mouse in Leeds! Why Not??!!!!
Even if there are no free online tickets there are thousands of comps kicking about so hanging about near the box office should bring a very cheap result before too long.

I have the full listings for Leeds now! White Stripes are only scheduled to play 90 minutes and QOTSA 50 which is a bit disappointing.
For you dancers despite the lineup looking like Klaxons and Daft Punk clash (they headline a stage each) They don't at all, you even have 20 minutes to get from one to the other.

I was just waiting for cheap tickets to appear before I booked for Thursday, but I only really wanted to see Modest Mouse so now they've pulled out I might just wait till Glastonbury.
I'm suprised there haven't been any free tickets flying about yet, should I still be hopefull on that count or has that ship well and truely sailed?

Well Friday in Leeds was a cold wet mud fest but the White Stripes and Queens of the Stone age delivered fine sets to lift the gloom. Satelite Party wern't to bad with Perry wisely doing loads of Janes Addiction tunes.
Wish i could have gone to see the dance day (had the chance of a freebie ticket) but family stuff got in the way. Daft Punk looked suprisingly good on the telly.
Sadly a family emergency meant I have to down down Nathan Winds kind offer of free entry for the friday :(
Anyone know if the Stripes are planning to do a proper tour later in the year?
Nathan-Wind
18-06-2007, 16:13
Sadly a family emergency meant I have to down down Nathan Winds kind offer of free entry for the friday :(
That was indeed a shame but the weather was amazingly bad on Friday, it only stopped during The White Stripes. Then we got sunburnt yesterday. It was remarkably easy to get people in free! Not that I did I just took 2 people with tickets in the back way to avoid the queues and no-one checked their tickets at all so they didn't actually need them.
Saturday was the best day as there was a great mixture of good bands and people there. Seeing my friend Kate's face as her friend went to have her picture taken with some of the Hollyoaks cast was priceless, pure horror!
Yesterday was good weather wise and people wise but the bands were terrible apart from LCD Soundsystem and CSS. Daft Punk were horrific, I hate them anyway but they just came out and pressed play on whatever laptop was holding their Coachella set and their pyramid didn't even work for ages.

It was great on Friday but a mudbath, wouldn;t have fancied camping for three days.
Enjoyed the set from The Only Ones, QOTSA and of course The White Stripes.
Annoyed a stage needed an O2 phone to get in, I had one but left it at home as I didn't want to damage it.
Bands on the second stage suspicously all had Leeds accents, sounded like they were just rounded up from the pubs from Leeds for the day

Nathan-Wind
18-06-2007, 22:46
The O2 stage was rammed during Richard Swift and it just got fuller during Kate Nash. It was still weird blocking off most people from even getting to the stage. Very few of the people I were with managed to get in there.

Daft Punk were excellent at leeds! Returned to the stage twice and ended it quite well :) LCD had a very short set and wasnt on their best form but ok. CSS were amazing, managed to catch some digitalism... Great weather, a little too checky at the gates (no sneaked in booze :( ).

a little too checky at the gates (no sneaked in booze
They were well efficient weren't they! We had to sneak all our friends boozes through the VIP entrance. I'm getting a mate to help with me reviewing Daft Punk to try and temper down my review of them, can't tell you how much I hated it. You might as well stay at home and watch the Coachella bootleg, its exactly the same but with the added value of the pyramid working properly.
I might have to see them again in August:cry:

And thousands of people going apesheet! I could imagine it could get boring if its the exact same show. Me and my mate were joking about what they were actually doing up there, how likely is it that there was a backing track?

Depends where you were in the crowd I had a wander to look around and saw a lot of people bored sat down. I've never been asked "know anyone with pills mate?" so much in my life. It was such a depressing way to end a festival. As for what they do up there, not much i'd say if you compare show for show, they could've at least plugged the pyramid in from the start. Woooo lights!
Someone I know did tell me today that she heard someone shout for an encore with the line "Earn your money you foil headed *****":notworthy

I actually never got asked for pills! My mate did though but she was wearing a luminous orange jumper that made you feel like you were on acid by just looking at it.

That's weird I was wearing a bright orange t-shirt so i'd be easy to spot. perhaps we've stumbled on to some code.
