Just watching my S3 bs from crave :D and was thinking back to the mid 90's when this show ruled the TV screens. It was on the simpsons, it was being copied and everyone loved it. I remember I always used to video it and watch it the next morning as my folks didn't want me up to half eleven watching it when it moved to beeb 1 (used to watch it in bed anyway).

What I want to know is where did it go wrong? For me, I watched the first 4 and a bit seasons and then the beeb  started to mess around with scheduling! Everyone loved it and was talking about it then suddenly it almost disappeared. IMO they should have finished it (the end of Mulder and maybe Scully in an institution or something upbeat like that). what you think? Still a classic TV seris IMO (first 3 and a half seasons).

Yeah I kinda lost interest around then! The problem I found was it was on Sky AND BBC and they were both messing about with the scheduling and I couldn't keep up with what I'd seen and not seen!!
Think I may have to get the boxsets when I can afford them I would love to watch it all in the right order!

It all went wrong when people finally realised that there were just more and more different alien/goverment/sister/baby conspiracy stuff being put in at the end of every season, but it was just not leading anywhere. Look back at the glimpses of this shown in the first 3 seasons. Was ANY of this explained at any point in the next SEVEN years? nope.

The current, ninth season in the US is hemorrhaging viewers, and the show looks likely to be cancelled.

A real shame, as the departure of David Duchovny and introduction of Robert Patrick as John Doggett has injected new life into the series, with a return to good, solid, harem-scarem storytelling.

It's a pity that so many viewers think that Mulder and Scully were the be all and end all of the show, and are now abandoning it. To my mind, they were only ever there to serve as a constant, familiar introduction into strong anthology style mysteries, kinda like Rod Serling at the start of The Twilight Zone, or Kolchak.

For me, the series "jumped the shark" when the show began to focus more on Mulder and Scully and their personal lives than the weekly stories.

The scheduling totally did my head in so I binned watching it sometime in series 4/5. Oooh we'll put it on 1 hour later/earlier tonight/clash it with the next series on Sky One/miss a couple of weeks without telling anyone/show the episodes IN THE WRONG ORDER/OMG are all programme schedulers lobotomized. Got the first two seasons on dvd, waiting for season three to plummet in price (who buys these at £79.99 - £89.99 anyway?)

When was the last time the BBC even showed an episode of a later series of The X-Files? (I know they are slowly getting through S1 on Friday nights)

I'll stick to the dvd's - £50 a pop 6 months apart I can just afford (poor student - seriously it ain't cheap! and I do work ******* hard too!). He should have finished with a movie and had a dramatic ending!

Rumour has it on The Digital Bits Website, that the Season 5 release (7th May) could possibly be in Widescreen.

For me it lost it's way around season 4/5 and I think should really have ended maybe one season after the film.

Look at the resolution of the Sister story arc what the hell was that all about. Talk about completely losing the plot......

I seem to remember that The X Files wasn't filmed in widescreen till Season Six (the one following the film) - may be wrong though.

I'm also pretty sure that w/s recordings were from the 6th season onwards, coinciding with the move down to L.A. from Canada.

was talking about the way the beeb mess about with scheduling last night with my mate (whilst watching Buffy, which gets messed around, badly cut, etc...).

The example that always sticks in my mind which my mate told me about is that in one episode Scully's dog dies, and then a few episodes later the bbc showed the episode where she got given the dog.

Dull or what!

While I am here - the episode where she got given the dog is my favourite one out of them all. She got given it by some bloke who, if I recall correctly, knew when people were going to die?

Does anyone know the title and which season it was in?

thanks
