Anyone recommend a cheap but decent-ish VCR??? Mines given up the ghost and I don't want to pay a fortune for something I rarely use!!!

I know Sony vids are normally pretty good (I like my Thompson though) and when I was in Bennetts last week they had a stereo sony in their sale for £120. I think it was the SLVSE710, but I could be wrong.

Recently bought a Panasonic 620 and it seems to be good. They have a cheaper 220 if you want to go really cheap (100 quid)

Hi,

There's a good Aiwa video which is cheap in many places just now. I have the 4-head version and its good for the money, so I assume this one will be even better.

Asda have it for £110, and you get a good no-quibble 3year warranty, so you could basically take it back if you are unhappy in any way. Or empiredirect (and probably some other sites) have it for about £95. http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/productdetailsnew.asp?modelcode=AIW-HVFX5850#

If you're buying to record (rather than play back) and can afford then I'd strongly recommend spending a little more for an S-VHS(ET) model. S-VHS(ET) recorders now cost little more than their conventional VHS counterparts (~£60) and produce much better recordings. Models from Sharp, Panasonic and JVC are available for ~£180 and are uniformly excellent.

I got a Panasonic 620 from John Lewis for £149 which included a 2 year warranty.

I was in the same position of replacing something that I rarely used, but I went for the Panasonic as it has about the best sound for the money.

I got mine from miller bros (seems to be a northern only chain) for 140 quid. Can be found for 130 online I think
