Anybody heard Silverchair's new single 'Straight Lines'?

It's a further progression of the ambitious happy pop/rock sound they created on Diorama, though at points you could almost mistake this for a Take That song! I quite like it though, Daniel Johns has one of the most creative ears for melodies I've ever heard.

The new album 'Young Modern' is out very soon I believe. Going from the video previews released on their website, the song 'If You Keep Losing Sleep' sounds very cool.

Liked Diorama, so might pick up the new album once I've heard a few bits of it.

It's fairly different to what they've done before, but if I had to compare it to any previous album I would say that it's a development of the sound they created on Diorama. Very melodic with a lot of pop sensibilities, but certainly not a mainstream sound and it has more of a gritty edge than Diorama. There are even traces of The Dissociatives (Daniel John's electronic side-project) in there.

There definitely isn't a trace of the old 1990's Silverchair sound here, and I think that's a good thing honestly. They only became interesting when they released Neon Ballroom.
