Hi

I have been looking now for the last few weeks for a good deal on the Canon EOS 400D with lens kit :)

BUT having a read there seems to be some problems with them dying soon after buying them and also i am very new to SLR photograpy but we all need to start somewhere :)

So what would be a good lens to buy to start off or is it good to learn with the starter lens?

Also anyone seen any good offer about best i have found is currys £475 with a discount code :)

Thanks shane

475 doesnt sound to bad, the kit lens doesnt deserve the slagging it gets and is fine to get started with.

As for dying, canon ship zillions of them, a few may have problems, but not many, and its under warrenty. My 350d is 1.5 years old and fine.

Get it!

The 400 comes with built in sensor cleaning. Best leave it until you get a problem.

If you're paranoid about your DSLR dying out of guaruantee you should look at Jessops warranties.

They're not exactly bargains, but I bought one with an Olympus Compact, used it for 3.5 years and when it died they swapped it for a spiffy new cam of a higher spec.

You should probably bear in mind that people are much more likely to post on forums if somethign goes wrong or they have a bad experience of a product. If you read too many forums on products, you'd probably end up not buying anything ever!

For lenses, I use a soft bristled brush and a Spontex window wonder (a nice large microfiber cloth).

I've got my gear covered under insurance from Photoguard. £45 a year for £1500 worth of cover is pretty good in my book.
