Roman Polanski (5 Disc Box Set) £6.99 @ 101CD.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(3289)a(60823)g(17313)url(http://www.101cd.com/detail.aspx?productid=813610))

The Pianist (2002): Roman Polanski's remarkable Oscar and Palme D'Or winning film 'The Pianist' tells the true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody). Managing to survive in the Krakow ghetto while the vast majority of the Jewish population have been transported to concentration camps, Szpilman leads a lonely, dangerous existence sheltering in abandoned houses...

Directed by a film artist who lived through the times it depicts, Polanski's matter-of-fact storytelling style makes this one of the most haunting of WW2-themed films and it features an indelible central performance by the Academy Award's choice of Best Actor in 2003, Adrien Brody.

Macbeth (1971): Roman Polanski presents his nightmarish vision of Shakespeare's classic tragedy about the lust for power-and its bloody consequences.

Jon Finch is Macbeth, the Scottish war hero whose insane ambition unleashes a cycle of violence. Prompted by the supernatural prophecy of three witches, Macbeth is goaded by his Lady (Francesca Annis) into slaying King Duncan (Nicholas Selby) and assuming his throne. Macbeth plunges further into murder and moral decay to keep the unsteady crown on his head. While his wife crumbles away in guilt and madness, the haunted Macbeth fights to prevent another dark forecast which may doom him.

The Ninth Gate (1999): Johnny Depp stars as Dean Corso, an unscrupulous rare book dealer who is hired to locate the last remaining copies of The Nine Gates, a demonic manuscript that can summon the Devil. Corso becomes embroiled in a conspiracy involving murder, theft and satanic ritual, and ultimately finds himself confronting the devil incarnate.

Bitter Moon (1992): Nigel (Hugh Grant) and Fiona (Kristin Scott-Thomas), a repressed English couple eager to rekindle their fading marriage by taking a luxury cruise, get more than they baragined for. Enroute they meet Oscar (Peter Coyote), a crippled American and his beautiful wife, Mimi (Emmanuelle Seigner), who both enthral and appal Nigel with rivetting accounts of their wildly sensuous exploits. Before they reach their journey's end, Nigel and Fiona become the unwitting participants in a tragedy with the most extraordinary outcome...

Tess (1979): In 19th-century England a peasant named John Durbeyfield discovers that he descends from a noble family, the d'Urbervilles. He sends his eldest daughter Tess to live with Alec d'Urberville, a rich cousin. It soon emerges that the illustrious name was purchased by Alec's father and emotional entanglements soon spiral out of control...

Good spot. The Ninth Gate rocks.

Oh, and S1LVERBACK, you can get Dance Of The Vampires (aka Fearless Vampire Killers) on its own. I love that film!

wallofbeans hope the following info helps:

Bitter moon & Macbeth are bare bones.

The other three have featurettes (Tess has 3) + Ninth Gate has a directors commentary (which IMO should just consist of a 2 hour apology).

But they come in nice slimline amarays.

is there any extras on the pianist? according to dvdcompare the first disk is bare bones but there is a 40min doc on the second disk (if you get the 2 disk set)... so that might be the only missing extra if i got this set...
