As the subject, are there any shooters for the Wii worth getting?
I've considered Red Steel and Far Cry, but from what I've read, they're not up to much.
I saw Metroid Prime 3 on Game's website, but unfortunately, it's not out for a good while yet.
I'm not a great fan of "realistic" games like Medal of Honour, but if they're the best available, I'll give them a go!
Thanks for any suggestions

Medal of Honour isn't realistic, Medal of Honour Vanguard is out soon, it might be good

How much swordplay is there in Red Steel? Is there a lot, or is it mostly shooting?

Call of Duty 3's proberly your best bet till Metroid.
Controlls take some getting used to but it's 'alright'. I'm sick to death of WW2 shooters though.
(The on rail shooting bits of Rayman:Raving Rabbids are really really good though)

I've bid £5.00 for Red Steel on Ebay :D .
I'll have to look around for a cheap copy of Call of Duty too - thanks for the suggestion.

The Wii is the wrong choice of console for FPS's tbh.

How much swordplay is there in Red Steel? Is there a lot, or is it mostly shooting? It's a bit of both, first level is mostly shooting, then next level you do a bit of sword fighting against a few people, it's so far split 90/10 in shooting/swordfights respectively (I've completed level 2).
I must say initially I hated Red Steel, but it's a grower once you get used to the controls (high sensitivity for me is needed). It's not the best FPS I've ever played, but slightly different.

Yes, I agree with you there, and in fact it's not my Wii.
I'm saving up for an Xbox 360 at the moment (for Halo 3! :D ), but I just wanted a game to keep me going, and getting one for the Wii seems like a good idea. I like the idea of using the wii remote and nunchuk to control it!
I think I'll try and get Red Steel and Call of Duty - if my budget will run to it!

I got given a copy of Red Steel the other day, and it's a lot better than the reviews might suggest. The control system is far from perfect, but once you get used to it you find it's much better than using standard console analog sticks.
The biggest problem with the control system is that it's got a sort of 'push' turning system - you have to move the cursor to the extreme edges of the screen to turn which feels clunky. It could really do with having a more graduated zone of movement, as it's very 'on/off' in feel. You find yourself turning before you get to corners and strafing round them. After a while you tend to just use a flick of the wrist to turn, which works pretty well.
The game does have very nice use of cover, so it sort of becomes a free-roaming time crisis at times, where you and the enemies are continually popping up and down into and out of cover.
The guns fire nicely, and feel 'solid' if you know what I mean. They don't seem wimpy, unlike some other FPS games.
The aiming is very precise, so it shows that with a bit of work you could get a FPS control system on the Wii that's nearly as good as mouse and keyboard on a PC.
It's got some very good bullet and explosion effects too.
I've also got COD3, but for some reason the control seems very jumpy, as though there's a problem with the Wimote. But since the Wiimote works fine in everything else there's probably something up with the game.

The controls take some getting used to but COD is pretty good.

I'm definately leaning towards COD & Red Steel.
I'll have a hunt around and look for the best prices (I somehow don't think I'm going to win the copy of Red Steel I've bid £5.00 for!)
Thanks.
