Whats the difference between this and the one you can get from Experian for free? (Or £4.99 for a sample score)

Different companies use different agencies. Some use Experian and some use Equifax. Therefore it explains why sometimes you will get rejected for credit but another place will give you credit.

Do they not both access the same information?

No, they use totally different sets of data as they store it themselves, and different banks etc use different credit agencies

Worth knowing! I thought it was all the same information.

Will obtaining a "EQUIFAX report" be recorded on your record, as a credit search is?

My Experian report was listed in their report for me, listed as Experian Identity Check and Experian Credit Report.

It's registered as a 'soft' search so will not affect your credit file in any way. What I mean is, it won't leave the 'usual footprint' which flags as an application for credit made.

checkmyfile.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-582776-10369352) give you a report from any of the 3 main agencies for £6.95. I can't see an affiliate link.

Worth noting you can get your Experian (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(32000)a(60823)g(16163442)) / Equifax (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.s2d6.com/x/?x=c&z=s&v=355259) reports for free if you sign up for their web based services (both offer a free trial but remember to cancel when it's time. I posted about it a while ago...)

I don't see any point in using checkmyfile.com as you can request your own credit file direct from any of the three companies (Experian (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(32000)a(60823)g(16163442)) / Equifax (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.s2d6.com/x/?x=c&z=s&v=355259) / Callcredit) for just £2. Unless they have to ask you for additional id checks then you get the reports very quickly.

If you do need to check your credit file you will need copies from all three as they can hold different information.

As already stated there as also the free one subscription Experian Creditexpert and Equifax services, but they will prove expensive if you forget to cancel!

Also finaly if like me you have been the unfortunate victim of id fraud you can apply to Experian for a free 12 month subscription Credit Expert.

I'm confused. You get exactly the same information for your £2 as checkmyfile charge £6.95 and HLM charge £8.25 (£14.95 usually) for?

How do these companies stay in business? Relying on the ignorance of the consumer?

The Equifax report fee isn't what 'we' charge. It's a discount we can obtain from the usual price of £14.95 through our software providers. I reiterate, we don't receive a penny from it.

The reports are available for £2 under statutory order. However, you wouldn't get this report instantly, and that is the convenience you are being charged for.
