Anyone here seen this film?! (http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0084749)
I borrowed the DVD off a friend who had bought the Anchor Bay R1 DVD on a whim of childhood fondness and I have to say it a damn fine movie of its genre.

I confess to having never seen nor heard of it, and after watching it I can understand why.

Released in 1982 amongst the glut of Sword/Fantasy flicks (<I>Dragonslayer</I>, <I>Conan the Barbarian</I>, <I>The Beastmaster</I>, <I>Krull</I>) it seems to have got buried as it lacked any real stars. Wrongly so...
It would have definitely being one of my childhood favourites had I seen it! :(
It's got plenty of violence and more than enough T&A! ;)
In fact as soon as I'd watched it - I said to my friend you saw this when you were a kid?!http://www.cityonfire.com/gZa/WTF/poundit.gif

Anyway!

Just curious if anyone here saw it back in the day...

...and those who are fans of the genre, check it out!

BTW The DVD is an average one.
Anamorphic 1.85:1 (however it looks like it's faked) with a bit a compression artefacts present and the print is a bit worn in some outdoor scenes.
DD5.1 and 2.0 tracks are provided and they're both adequate.

As good as one can expect I suppose.

Yeah i remember seeing this ages ago. Was a very good film, will have to track the dvd down now :) The follow up, Archer and the Sorceress, wasnt too hot and there were rumours of a 3rd film, Tales of an Ancient Empire, but i dont think that ever got made.

But yeah it seemed to get lost due to no big star names, dont let that put you off. Well worth a watch.

I bought the DVD because i loved the film to death when i was a kid. Still enjoyed it as a grown up but i was quite surprised to find that it was made more in style to an Erol Flynn swashbuckler than the usual Conan rip off's.

Anyway, no stars you say! What about t.v's Matt Huston and t.v's Manimal!

( and not forgeting the baddie who was the baddie in every 80's t.v show ever! )

Spam,

In what way is Archer and the Soceress (http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0082027) a sequel?
The credits of <I>The Sword and the Sorcerer</i> claim (ala Bond) that Talon will return in <I>Tales of the Ancient Empire</i> but I believe it was never made. :(

Arch,

I agree with the Errol Flynn comparison - the guy even looks like him! Not to mention the innuendo laced Bogart/Bacall type dialogue between the two leads. :D

I just assumed it was due to the names being similar :) The IMDB has it listed as warrior and the sorceress, but im pretty sure it was Archer.

I still have the novelisation for this film!

Saw the film years ago at the cinema and remember being impressed with Richard Moll's sorcerer (Xusia?)

Just waiting till I get drunk enough one night that I will order it in a bout of nostalgia.
