Picked one of these up for myself a few weeks back - really good, fast charge, good suck, useful tools. Spotted it in sainsburys for £80 this morning so snagged for the mother in law - had to pay the full £100 myself, no discounts around for this that I could see.

I've had the last one our of Apsley Mills in Hemel Hempstead so don't both looking in there (and no more due apparently), my local store in Dunstable isn't big enough to have an electrical dept so you'll have to pick your stores carefully :)

for those of you with a makro card, they are currently doing full size dc07 uprights and dc08 cylinder vacuums for £99 (+vat)
Still a billy bargain.

Good price, but one thing to watch for with the Dyson handheld is that it only last about 5 mins before dying and having to be re-charged :(
We had one for about 2 weeks and it went back cos of this, then had another which was exactly the same.
Have now settled on the Black and Decker jobbie with the rotating nozzle.
Can do the whole car on a full charge, luvverly jubberly

don't touch the DC08 cylinders with a barge pole - they are pants! Pick very little up off carpet.

The question about the handheld dysons must be:

Why spend £80-£100 on a handheld vac when you can buy 4/5 black and decca or other well known brands that do exactly the same job?

Answers on a post card please ;)

oh of course its to keep up with the nextdoor neighbours!

I was tempted but after reading reviews online and the 5 minute battery life I will pass on this - Thanks anyway to OP.

So then, collective opinion is that the Dyson handheld sucks? :n0rty:

I'd personally disagree with that. I've had the DC08 Animal (cylinder) for about 2/3 years and its never had any problems. Sure needed to wash the filter a few times but other than that perfect. It near enough lifts the carpet of the floor!

I don't know if I was lucky to get a good one or if you were unlucky to get a bad one?

As for the hand held, the Black and Decker turbo vac things are better (hold the charge longer). Wasn't there a cheap one in Argos recently ?

I guess it depends on what you want to use it for. We wanted handheld to suppliment our existing cleaner (a dc07 as it goes) for those odd jobs where we don't want to drag the main cleaner out - typically lasting < min to clean up a bit of fluff\dirt\dust or quickly tidy up the car. In 5 mins I was able to run the dyson around our car quickly tidying up the boot and the carpets\seats in the front - admitted not pro valet standard but all that I wanted without pulling out a bigger cleaner. Compared to the B&D dustbuster we had this is excellent, 20V rather than the normal 4 to 9 depending on model, faster charge, easier empty. I'll be the 1st to admit that its a bit pricey and that we could have picked up a handful of cheapies to buy and chuck ... but those handy nectar points were burning a hole in our pockets (OK ... so i didn't ACTUALLY shell out £100 of my hard earned! :)) and with a LiON battery that won't degrade like a nicad in the cheapies and the funky brush attachment it had us sold.

If you're wanting >5mins then I'd pass on handhelds and move to a smaller mains powered one ...
