From aintitcool.com (http://www.aintitcoolnews.com):

Harry,

TheForce.Net has reported that N'Sync's Attack of the Clones cameo appearance has wound up on the cutting room floor. N'Sync member Joey Fatone mentioned the scene in an interview, saying it had been dropped because people "made a big deal out of it." I'm sure the scene will be included on the DVD, but it looks like N'Sync won't be seen in the theatrical run.

-ZeroKel

and this...

Hey Harry I was listening to 99.3FLZ when Joey Fatone called into the Carson Radio Show (99.3 FLZ) with word that the group had been cut from the film, saying "I'm going to make it officially known they dropped it because people made a big deal about it...we stopped by the set and it was like a little small thing and we're not going to be in it, and I'm not going to comment on it anymore." Wow this is great! The internet does have power. If only George would listen more often and take out Jar Jar.

Good news indeed.

DOES IT REALLY MATTER????? I mean, I hate N'Sync as much as anyone, but did it matter whether it was them or "extras" in the scene?

Seems a little pointless to me!

It just shows you. Moaning on the internet can count for something. :D

You are missing the point, it's pointless, tacky and a waste of time for this cheesy pop band to appear in the first place, damn marketing.. pathetic

I personally would have been quite amused to see N'Sync get blown up! :D

They were visiting the set and Lucas allowed them to be in the film - big deal - it's not as if they were speaking roles! Imagine if you were on set and Lucas allowed you to be in the film - would you turn it down.

Oh, and of course, the Star Wars films are way above doing anything that is pointless and tacky for the sake of marketing!!!!.......Now where did I put my Chewbacca lunchbox?

What has it counted for? What has it done? Why did people moan?

That's what I don't understand.

I can't understand what the whole fuss was for as well. There didn't seem to be to many objections when E.T. and other characters appeared as cameos in The Phantom Menace. Don't get me wrong I don't like N'Sync and their brand of 'POP' but some people just knocked it for who they are when really it was just a harmless piece of generosity on Luca's part.

EDIT I stand corrected on a technocality, see below.

Anyway seems to have brought somemore publicity for the film and N'Sync though.

No it wasn't. Originally it was Rick McCallum's idea. Lynne Hale, a LucasFilm spokesperson confimed it.

Despite the child-friendly mediocrity of the Phantom Menace, fans of star wars still want to believe that this second trilogy can become as good as the first.

Having flash-in-the-pan "stars" such as n'ync appearing in the film would have only made more tacky an already cheapened brand.

What a crock - it's purely people moaning for the sake of moaning, and a bit of abject jealousy. If it hadn't been announced until the film had been released I can almost guarantee that no one would have noticed. Sheesh! in a world where Gredo shoots first you are worried about the fact that four or five lads from a naff pop group are appearing???

I REITERATE - it mattered not, people did not know why they didn't want N'Sync in the film - they just didn't want them in.

Question for the moaners - why didn't you want them in the film??????

IS it because you despise boy-bands and wouldn't touch anything they did with a barge-pole?

If that is the case, how many of you have watched a Mark Wahlberg film?? How many of you watched Band of Brothers, or The Sixth Sense with Mark's sibling (ex-New Kids on the Block) Donnie in it.

Get your heads out of your respective asses and think about why you didn't want N'Sync to appear in the background of this film!!!!

The film will probably blow anyway, but it would of stank with such cheap marketing in it.

Oh, and Iv not seen any of those films you mention.

Calm down Markman ......

The fact of the matter is that it's just another example of the second trilogy turning into a mere bunch of cash-in prequels.

You would be disappointed I'm sure, if you had seen your favourite childhood movies' prequels turn out this way wouldn't you?

pjn put it perfectly...Having flash-in-the-pan "stars" such as n'ync appearing in the film would have only made more tacky an already cheapened brand

Also Markman about your point here: If that is the case, how many of you have watched a Mark Wahlberg film?? How many of you watched Band of Brothers, or The Sixth Sense with Mark's sibling (ex-New Kids on the Block) Donnie in it.

Get your heads out of your respective asses and think about why you didn't want N'Sync to appear in the background of this film!!!!

You and I both know that Donnie wasn't actually still in NKOTB when he made those appearances was he? He had moved on from being in a boy band and gone on to become an actor...so what? Good for him....and for his career.
That doesn't bother me an ounce.....it wouldn't bother me if he has a guest appearance in the SW prequels because I happen to think he was pretty good in 6th Sense.
It's nonsense to compare that to N'Sync....a tedious boy band whose target audience are the teenie-boppers (IMO of course  )
and their alleged inclusion in the trilogy was only to further marr the already tarnished production values brought about in part by Rick McCallum's involvement in the trilogy.

Would you like to see say Daphne and Celeste or Steps, for example making a cameo appearance in one of your favourite films (unless the plot revolved around saccharine-sweet pop groups)? I rest my case.

The whole NSYNC thing ****** me off. Do you know why? Because it shows the rest of the world how incredibly anal and unfair some movie fans are, and gives the rest of us a bad name. To those of you who seem to hate the idea of the cameo so much: what an earth is wrong with you? How could them having a cameo in the movie ruin it in any way whatsoever? It's not like it would affect the plot at all, or the acting, or the directing, or the effects, or the music etc. etc. In other words, it wouldn't detract from the film in ANY WAY. Apparently, NSYNC were offered a part after Lucas's kid pleaded with him. For the group, it was a dream come true. Despite not liking their music much, I can't say I hate them, and I certainly wouldn't begrudge them the fulfilment of a childhood dream. My mate actually likes their music because he thinks they're totally cheesy, and we 'rock out' to it in his car on a regular basis. It's kind of fun. But I don't even know what they look like, so for me the cameo wouldn't have been a problem. For those of you who feel differently, I hope you're pleased with yourselves for getting your own way at the expense of others'. It's times like this that I wish the Internet didn't have any influence at all on movies. Lucas should just be able to get on with his damn movie without any 'help' from any of us. **** 'the fans', or at least those who care so much about such inconsequential things. Oh, and next time one of you is offered a teeny part in a big movie, instead of congratulating you and concealing our jealousy like gentlemen, we'll all sign an online petition to have you shot.

Sorry but the idea of anyone rocking out to Nsync cracks me up.

Just wondered have you ever listened to Nsync? It's just that I wouldn't know an Nsync song if you came and shoved it where the sun don't shine. Now backstreet boys are a different matter :p

For me, SW:EP 1 is like some horrible universe where we were brought up on Batman ala the first movie and the dark visions in the animated series and then suddenly for no reason at all the 60`s batman TV series was unleashed upon us.

I'm giving Ep 2 the benefit of the doubt but if it's like 1 then I will not go to see 3 and I most certainly won't touch the rumoured 6 movie boxset. If 4,5 and 6 are in a separate boxset though... :)

Booooooo!!!!!!!

Looks like the saddo fanboys have had thier way

I hope Lucas and co put them back in just as 1 fingered salute to all those fanboys who complain over NOTHING... look at the talkbacks of Aint It Cool - full of people who only ever complain about films many of which havent even come out, seemed like everyone hated X Men before it came out - dude this is gonna suck big time etc but then as soon as the film came out they were so quick to turn around. These cynical "fans" are the worst they never have anything constructive to say about a topic just this sucks or this blows!! Complaining about N*Sync (whose music I DO like! and no I'm not usually into Pop music) getting in the movie was a just a typical knee jerk reaction. I bet most of them were furious at Lucas willing him to die before they had even read the whole article.

I'm really not bothered about this either way to be honest, though if I recognised any of them (which I wouldn't) it would perhaps spoil it a little, be a bit distracting, etc...

But, I've got to admit there is just something about it that doesn't really instill me with confidence about the film, even though I hope it's fab.

Maybe it's just people's concern about the film not turning out to be that good, and this is just another aspect of it.

there we go though.
