View Full Version : Seller asking for more postage after auction end
Ebay bottle liners auction (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=582776&mpre=http%3A//cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26ih%3D009%26sspagename%3DSTRK%253AMEWN%253AIT%26viewitem%3D%26item%3D190085985885%26rd%3D1%26rd%3D1)
I only bid after confirming that the guy would post to UK and he had already posted up $9.45 to UK in answer to another UK ebayer.
I paid immediately [as usual] and he first sent an email saying can't send it:
It shows you are an unverfied paypal customer. I stated clearly you have to be verified! I cannot send the items until you do this.
I did start the verification process but emailed him back saying he was being unreasonable as the verified paypal was not in his ad but only in reply to my postage question [I never said I was verified only that I had 100% feedback and a confirmed address].
I then got:
I just want to opologize. For some reason the verify part did not show up on this ad. I will ship yuor item tomorrow.
last night but this morning he mailed me [not via ebay] and asked for a FURTHER $18.10 postage costs as didn't know how much it would be and has never shipped abroad before.
He is obviously trying it on but $27.55 (nearly 200% increase in total) to ship 3 small bottle-liner boxes is taking the biscuit.
How would you advise I proceed?
If it were me, i would state that the cost for shipping had already been quoted and was not prepared to pay any more.
I very much doubt that they would cost that much to ship anyway.Check the cost for yourself on the usps website ( you will need his zip/postal code for this ).
I have had larger items shipped from the usa for less, so i would say that $27.55 seemed pretty expensive!
It really depends on how much you want the items?

Exactly, it's his own fault for misleading you on postage, he should take the hit and will have learnt a lesson for next time he ships abroad
Today I received a negative
My crime? I won an auction recently with the postage clearly stated. As always I took this cost into consideration when placing my bid. Paid by paypal and two days later the seller emails me telling me they got it wrong and they want an extra £2 to cover postage.
Unfortunate I reply, happened me before but I just took the hit, in one case I sold an item, inc P&P for £2 but it cost me £2.50 to post  It happens and it's my loss, and the buyers gain. So I refuse to pay the extra £2.
They attept to mutually cancel the auction which I refuse. So they refund me my money and neg me :cuckoo:
Seller now has a NPS filed against them
OP, I would of refunded your payment, if you are paypal unverfied I'm not covered it the package goes missing.

Are you sure this is the case with non-US paypal accounts? It certainly didn't used to be.
Hi
There must be some mistake. The cost for shipping to the UK has already been quoted by you at $9.45 and thus formed the basis for sale. For this reason I am not prepared to pay any extra charges after the end of the auction.
I sympathise, having been in a similar position once in the past but as the seller had to take it on the chin.
Please confirm to me when the boxes are being posted out.
Thanks
just sent him that. will see what he says. he has already sent me 3 "reminders" for the $18.10 today
The guy is a nutjob. This is the answer I just got back:
My ad stated ONLY USA! I estimated the fee. I went to ship them yesterday and it was double that shipping! It must be paid. I am not responsible to pay an extra fee for your product! Again the fee was estimated. I dont usually ship overseas.
I have given him one last chance before having to make a claim by replying:
"Your ad states:
Post to: Worldwide
Ebayer Minniemonster on 25th February asked:
HI THERE WHAT IS THE POSTAGE COST TO THE UK PLS? MANY THX, MINNIEMONSTER
You Answered:
A: $9.45
I then asked you to clarify:
“your postage section says shipping in the US only but you give a price to UK and do say "worldwide" in the title”
You replied:
A: YES UK IS FINE
Sorry mate but you are not going to get away with what you just said.
There is no such thing as “estimating the fee”. The prices in the sale are binding to both parties. If you had said “$1000” and I made the winning bid, I would be liable to pay the P&P. Had you not been sure you should have said “postage at cost price” or whatever.
If you do not want to post me the items I want a full refund from you for “cancelled sale” or I will be forced to report you to Ebay and to raise a claim with Paypal. This is not something I want to do, but you are leaving me with very little choice."
It's his fault fair and square, posted an item off yesterday, charged £8.00, but ended up having to buy a postal box and then send it which cost me £11+, my mistake so I've learnt for next time.
He is just winding me up. Replied to above saying I must have changed the amount on the invoice etc.
I am going to report him.
Do I file with Paypal/Ebay/both?

I would file it with both of them, the guy realises he has made a mistake and is now trying to back track out of it.......
am I correct in thinking that I have to wait 10 days before filing with Ebay?
Filed with Paypal and escalated to complaint [on basis I already tried to reason with him]

Subscribes to thread :)
Seriously thinking of adding "Will not deal with Nigerians or Americans" on my auctions.
well within 2 hours Paypal closed the file and reimbursed my money.
He's a cheeky git though - I posted the entire email exchange I had with him [most recent 1st] onto the Paypal disputes area and thus the final email one reads is the intial one from him apologising and agreeing to post out.
he is now claiming that was the LAST/most recent email he sent me and he is upset I didn't read this, accept his apology and accept the offer to post!!!!
presumably I now just wait for him to neg me! :oh-hum:
Ebay wouldn't let me file a dispute as it is still <10days
As long as you have your money back - a Neg as a buyer is not as bad as that of a seller - if he negs you - Neg Back.
interestingly he's just left me POSITIVE feedback, presumably in the hope I don't neg him....

Another neg vote here
what a muppet.
funnily enough I was having the same idea ;)
Another vote to neg him here. Trying to wriggle out of it, obviously.
kids were on top form today so I was in an uber good mood.
let him off with a neutral
