Mod chip no longer working

I have a pioneer dvl 909 and for some reason I can no longer changed the region coding on my machine i last night wanted to switch from region 1 to region 2 and I could not get it to work, anyone else had any experience of this or know much about mod chips to know if they can go wrong and what I might be able to do about it

DVL 909 - is that the first generation LD-DVD combi player?

As far as I know, these weren't modded by changing chips - they were modded by connecting together a couple of solder points on one of the PC Boards inside. It may be, simply, that this connection has broken.
