View Full Version : Help in buying a 28"WS TV please!
I am looking at buying a new WS TV but have only about £400 to do it. I have seen a few Thomson/Goodmans/Samsung models in this price range but have no idea how good they are for the price. Can any of you TV gurus out there point me in the right direction please? I am looking for one with at least 2 scart sockets.

The 28" Beko WS from Kwik-save (£250) has two scarts, one with RGB the other with S-video. If it's as good as the 28" non-ws Beko I have, you'll get a very acceptable picture
Thinking of buying one or something else but for < £300
Some WS budget TVS have two scarts, but put RGB and S-vid together on one - if you have two devices with such outputs, you might need some kind of switch
An example of this (I think) is the 282NS from Comet (although I can't be sure, I can't get any info on it)
But if you're spending £400 you may get separated RGB/ s-vid
anyway
I have a few links whichmay be of interest

Also note that PriceGuide/ShopSmart/Kelkoo/Pricerunner will give you a starting point on prices (but you may find the item you decide on cheaper in a mag such as mentioned above - it's sale time :D )

I bought a Sharp 28" WS from Comet about 6 months ago - sorry can't remember the model number. Its got three scarts (one RGB) and I've been really impressed with it. Lots of WS modes and a good quality stand.
In fact - I think this (http://www.comet.co.uk/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=2633623&prmenbr=927&cgrfnbr=2835099&main_cgrfnbr=2830437&main_catname=Televisions) is it.
Quite a few forum members own the Toshiba 28W93B (myself included).
This model can be bought for around £350 ( find the low priced retailers using www.price-guide.co.uk )
Its a quality set for that kind of money - its one of the best under £400.
Just a few points to note with the budget brands (Goodmans,Bush,Matsui etc).
Some won't accept NTSC (can be a problem for R1 DVDs )
some have limited widescreen modes
Some have problems with anamorphic material
There are even a couple that don't even accept RGB.
So check the spec carefully if you are not sure. The Beko spec seems OK though ;)
The 32" Beko sounds a good buy (£369 - see bargain forum) - if you have room.I wish i had bought a 32".
I was on the look out for a new 28" W/S around the £400 area.
Was going to buy a philips 28pw6006. After trolling through lots of reviews and online shops, found an hitach 28C511TN for £450 from Allders with 5 yr warranty.
Got 2 scarts, 1 rgb (for the sky box) the other S-Video for the DVD.
Does NTSC no problem.
Dvd picture quality is superb.

Thanks for all your help guys. I will take all your comments onboard. I am currently edging towards the Philips 28PW6006 @£324 from anything-direct.com - cheapest I've seen it yet:)
Yes another vote for the Philips. You can get it from unbeatable (A company which are reputable) and it's not much more.
