Hi All,

What would people consider a reasonable price for a second hand D200 please? I am thinking of buying my dad's camera off him, but he wants £750 for it with a book and a 1GB CF card thrown in. Not bothered about the book or the card though.

It seems you can get them for about £820 including delivery in this country and about £50 cheaper if you import it. I don't think £750 is that good a deal really, not considering the cost of a brand new one. Thoughts anyone?

I think £750 is a bit steep. As you say you can get one new for £820.

I'd pay about £650 for one without any warranty, or about £725 with. However if its your Dad's presumably its in good nick and works fine, so £750 isn't bad I guess.

Surely with 'Dad Discount' applied this should be free or atleast heavily discounted..:D

I agree, he's not being overly generous with his pricing. Are you sure you weren't adopted? ;)

Mention that fact that you'll have to choose his nursing home one day and see if that will knock a few hundred off. ;)

Heh well I have had significant 'dad discounts' in the past so I can't bargain too hard with him. His problem is that it cost him well over 1k when he got it, but that's what you get for being an early adopter I guess. :)

I'm a bit torn at the moment between the D80 and the D200 though. The D200 is obviously a better camera, but it's my wife who will be using it more then me and she's not that confident she would get the most out of a semi-pro camera like the D200. The feeling is that the D80 would meet our criteria but be a bit more user friendly over and above the D200.

There is also price to consider, I could get the D80 + battery grip brand new for less than the D200 second hand (even if I pushed my dad down to say 650-700).

Am I mad to be considering the D80 over the D200? I would like the D200 but I'm not sure it's got enough pluses over the D80 to warrant the extra cash.

Get the D80, that'll be easier for you and your missus to use and it's brand new. He should make more money punting the D200 on what ever auction site he chooses.
