View Full Version : Currys Memory Direct
Currys (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(1469)a(60823)g(13819)) now have a website offering Flash memory cards and blank CDs and DVDs at competitive prices.
Currys Memory Direct (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(1469)a(60823)g(13819)url(http://www.entertainment.currys.co.uk/currys-memory/home.dept?))
May not be the cheapest but certainly cheap and with FREE delivery.
Saves the sort of hassle I am currently having with 7dayshop over returns :nono: as at least with Currys you can take things back to the shop.
5 DVD+R in Jewel Cases- only £10. :s
This seems expensive. To compare, Amazon.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/redirect-home?tag=thedvdforums-21&site=dvd) sell 100 DVD-R for £18 and 200 CD-R for £20 including delivery in spindles.

Hi Guys
Hope you don't mind me joining this conversation. I know more about the internal workings of an ecommerce website than most
The problem with any site that offers free delivery on products of varying wights and sizes is that the actual cost to the website owner of the delivery has to be built into every product.
That means that if you ever want to buy more the one product from the site it's unlikely that the cost will ever be competative with a shop that bases the delivery cost on the weight of the goods you have selected.
Trust me, as a website owner selling exactly these sort of products, I've analysed this for hours and hours.
I would hope that most of the people reading this already know of my company and will check our website before spending money elsewhere. We seldom disappoint :)

just searched for a 2gb SD card, they only have a couple on the site and they're both unbranded so i'll give them a miss
Says they price match:
Dabs.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(50662)a(60823))
eBuyer (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(33903)a(60823))
Empire Direct (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(137)a(60823)g(19373))
Amazon.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/redirect-home?tag=thedvdforums-21&site=dvd)
The range is limited but all formats covered.
I like the fact that the CD's and DVD's are branded so you know the quality is guaranteed rather than off the shelf in the far east.
I'll give it a try as I need DL DVD's. 10 pack for 17.99. I think its a good deal with the free delivery. :notworthy

Will that be including your staff discount? ;)

I think I'll be sticking with www.svp.co.uk as they obviously care about their customers IME.
Currys is OK to check the size of a fridge in-store and then buy off the Internet. They have no experience in memory/media accept for charging a bomb for it. If they take 30% off their prices online then maybe SVP might have something to worry about.
Will that be including your staff discount? ;)

Point taken regarding cost of delivery however if you only want one item free delivery works out cheaper and there is no cost of return for faulty items if you can take then back to a shop. The other advantage of free delivery, the customer gets a full refund rather than the cost of the item less P&P which is the basis 'some' online suppliers operate.
I am aware that many people use SVP and are very happy with your service I was just making people aware of an alternative.

IMO once you leave the highstreet it simply the best idea to go with the cheapest supplier with best CS. Also, if you have a problem with a Currys product, good luck getting a refund or owt out of them. Complete SOBs to get money back out of....

I bought an Archos 504 from Currys Online the screen was rubbish compared to my AV500 so I took it back to the local Currys and got my money back no problem.

Hi Jefft
SVP would never charge a customer for returning a faulty product.
It's bad enough that they waste their time dealing with something faulty! It certainly shouldn't cost them money to return! I wonder if Currys online will the that thoughtful if a customer doesn't want to waste their time going to a local store? Will they send out a courier or provide a freepost address at their expense to collect the faulty item?
On the price issue, Currys won't beat us 99% of the time.
If they decide to throw out a few "lost leaders" to get some attention, then there may be some deals to be had, but 99% of the time SVP will be your cheaper option.
If anyone finds a product at Currys cheaper than they can get it at SVP including the delivery, email me at steve@svp.co.uk and I'll sort it.
With our low overheads and efficient organisation I don't think we will have any problems matching Currys for prices and as for service....I'll let you guys make up your own minds.
Right....off to the Zoo with the kids.

I believe we have some coming in from Kingston and Integral later this week. Price to be confirmed, but it seems to be a bit more expensive than mini SD :(
Still...at least we'll have stock!

I have to agree that SVP handle returns very well - I bought an IP-Talky keyboard off them and it turned out to be faulty. Within a few days they had sent a courier out to deliver a new one and take the previous one away. No hassle at all!
SVP are an excellent company to deal with.
Customer service is 2nd to none.
Excellent prices on most items and fast and friendly service.
People at SVP know what they are talking about.Doubt if you could say the same for Currys :D
