Does any know the answer to the thread question?
I'm thinking of getting a freeview box modified, just so that I can use it for radio stations, but I reckon I'd probably still have to have a TV licence for it.
Does anyone know for sure?
I think its classed as ability to recieve the signal not the ability to view it?
Why not just get a DAB radio?

I would pretty much say that you would have to pay for it still as it is getting a digital feed via the broadcasting network and not an RF signal...
My sister-in-law is a TV License Officer, and as Kryton said, it is a case of if you are capable of receiving a feed, then you have to pay.
There's not much you can get away with these days..

Thanks, that's pretty much what I thought.
It was just that the area it's in can't get a DAB signal very well, so I'd have to erect an ariel, but the freeview box got a single without any hassle.
I'll stump up and get an ariel connected for a DAB I reckon.
If you have an antenna feed to it though already then just get a DAB radio with an input and hook it up to that. A TV one will work most of the time without the need for a specialist DAB one!

Cheers Kryten, we'll give it a whirl!
You'll probably need a cable with the correct ends on to do it as I think most DAB radios have a F connector (same as a satellite connection), but its easy to convert the cables. If you have a full hi-fi system then get to Comet (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.awin1.com/awclick.php?mid=157&id=30372) and see if they have the standalone DAB tuner's. My local one has some reduced to around 50 quid!
I'll stick this thread in the hardware forum so that you can ask any questions there :)

I'd die if I didn't have a TV :)
It's not for the home.
