History shows that there's at least a few Mellencamp fans lurking on the forums so I thought that I'd post thread for his new album.

Not up to to the high standard set by Scarecrow & The Lonesome Jubilee as some have claimed (that would be a tall order), but as good as any of his albums in the last 10 years. Elements of rock, blues, country but some interesting songs that are done in a different style.

e.g. Ghost Towns Long The Highway - typical Mellencamp lyrics and subject matter, but the brrooding organ and smouldering guitar give it a bit of an edge.

Worth a purchase if you like his previous work.

I think it's better than his last few albums which have been really average stuff. I always find with John Mellencamp that most albums contain one or two killer tracks and the rest are all a bit :| For me his last great record was Human Wheels.

As for Freedom's Road I really like the opening tracks Someday & Ghost Towns. The acoustic versions of these are also great.

Agreed - with the opening tracks I though "Wow" ...... and then the rest didn't quite match those two.

I'm not usually one for experiemental hip-hop beat rubbish, but I thought that 1996's "Mr Happy Go Lucky" was a great album. But yes, everythning since then has been average (for Mellencamp!).

Yeah it wasn't bad I suppose, I really love "Jerry" from that album.

If were to compile a personal best of album at least 3 tracks would have to come from Human Wheels. Suzanne And The Jewels, Sweet Evening Breeze & What If I Came Knocking

Nothing beats The Lonesome Jubilee ..... but Scarecrow is almost as good.
Those two stand head and shoulders above the rest of his albums in my opinion. But "Human Wheels", "Mr.Happy Go Lucky", "Whenever We Wanted" and "uh-hug" are all great albums.

New track/video on Mellencamp.com:-

He's in the studio with T-Bone Burnett producing - apparently the new album if slated for early next year. 2 albums in 2 years - Mellencamp's on a bit of a run of form at the moment!

Also, there's an unofficial biography "Born In A Small Town : The John Mellencamp Story" due in the UK in January.
