What happens if you only have weekend tix?
I take it you miss out on Friday.

That's a pretty shocking line up. Makes V look like a cutting edge festival.

downhillbiker
22-02-2007, 15:14
Actually, looking at that lineup, it's a massively average range of bands! Nothing leaps out and shouts "HEADLINER" at me... I'm hoping they'll pop something in there to liven it all up.

GregB

I've just gone through the line up so far and the following are the only acts I would consider paying to see

Arcade Fire
James
CSS
Interpol
Maximo Park
Editors
Tori Amos

So that's 7 out of 35. A pretty shocking return

If your Jo Whiley it's must be your dream festival.

It's even more hideous when you compare it to last year... and that wasn't even a brilliant lineup!

I'm about the same probably adding Jamie T to the mix, you've got to remember tho there are probably about another 100 bands to get added to the list, I've been to every T in the Park and for the last 2 years I've been no where near the main stages

Even tho I've got a ticket I'm still not sure if I'm going this year

douglasb

'Course, the $1 million question would be "Who do you *think* should be headlining / main staging?" (caveat being that they would have to be available and interested with probably a new album to promote).

That has to be one of the most dreary main stage line-up i've seen for any festival. With the possible exception of Kings of Leon and the Goo Goo Dolls there is not one band on that list that I would get excited about seeing.

Arctic Monkeys & Bloc Party on the same day, that's my worst nightmare come true

its a very familiar line up. Most of those acts have played one or both of the last 2 years.

Just to give this a bump...

Massive traffic delays to get up there today - 12 mile tailbacks from the event, apparently it was taking people around 9 hours to get from Glasgow to Ballado, and they've had to shut the car parks due to the weather.

Fans travelling to T in the Park tomorrow morning are strongly advised to travel only by shuttle bus whether they have day tickets or camping tickets. Organisers have been working round the clock to ensure that problems on site are addressed as quickly as possible but the extreme weather has made it very difficult to find solutions to these issues at present.

Mr Majestik

Watched it for 5 mins last night on BBC3 at 7 O'clock. They were interviewing a very, very drunk Lilly Allen live and she was dropping f bombs like there was no tommorow.

Quality car crash telly.

Handily I live not that far away from T in the Park and went up this morning as I couldn't be bother going up yesterday even tho I've got a 3 day camping ticket.

Went and saw Camera Obscura who were pretty good, James who were ok but finished with Goldmother which always good in my book would have liked them to play their earlier folkier stuff but nevermind, The Hours were good, highlight for me was watching DJ Shadow and the Cut Chemist mix on 4 decks each, they were mixing old 7inch soul and stax records and confusing the hell out of the the pill poppping young neds/chavs .. quality !

Probably go and see alot more bands tomorrow starting with Digitalism as JV has raved on about them quite a bit on here

I would be tempted to see the Wu Tang Clan, they'll either be **** or fantastic, I'd also make an effort to see The Pigeon Detectives but then I like MOR indie bands :p

On the agenda for tomorrow is Andy Wetherall, Digialism, Pigeon Detectives or Hold Steady, Tokyoblu (my mates band), Wu Tang Clan, Biffy Clyro, Kings of Leon, Interpol or Pipettes and maybe a bit of Hard Floor

Lorne.t

It depends whether you want moody or something to bring a smile to your face.
The Pipettes are a good fun band and have to be seen at least once.

Judging by the TV coverage, there are more people into the music rather than the "Glastonbury Experience" and that's impacting on the band's performances. The Killers performance blows away last weeks.

Great, watching the Gossip, and get "press red for maximo park!" So I press it, and who's on the other channel? The lispy, warbling waste of skin that is Paulo Nutini.

Between this, and the Beeb cutting Metallica yesterday, I am not happy with the Corporation.

Maximo Park now doing an interesting version of "500 Miles" by The Proclaimers - with the lead singer reading the words from a book... not bad actually.

downhillbiker
08-07-2007, 20:34
At least it was something a bit risky... I haven't watched any of it since, as it's all the bloody same. I was willing to give T another chance, even though I thought it would be utter ***** from the lineup, but it's been absolute garbage for the most part (with a few exceptions).

I actually used to like the Gossip, but I'm just sick of them now, especially Beth Ditto.

Pentasa

Just got back from T and the Wu Tang Clan were pretty good tho not all of them turned up (Method Man was missing as per usual) and then they just about walked off stage as they were being pelted with glow sticks. But they really got into it as the crowd as going nuts, I think I managed to see every band I mentioned, also managed to fit in the Dykeenies, DJ Tiga and also Avril Lavagine.

A mate saw Reverand and the Makers yesterday and they they were slagging of Razorlight, I didn't know Arch Stanton fronted a band :) and apparently Aracade Fire mentioed that they really enjoyed the parade in Glasgow yesterday, that would be the big Orange Walk then

I'm reviewing Razorlight at T on the Fringe (probably)... I think I'll have to restrain myself a little, or what I write might be a little too vitriolic for public consumption. To make it worse, they've got the Editors on before them - a band who I really rate at the moment, especially after what I saw of their T performance on telly.

That's weird, they had the full quota in Manchester on Friday night and they were fab, Method Man stole the show :notworthy

i had a blast at T... the campsite was a bit mental, esp on friday night when the mud was just EVERYWHERE but thankfully it dried out. my favourites were James, Razorlight (odd cause i hate them in "the real world") the Killers and snowpatrol (who i also don't like). I found the sound extremely disappointing though, it was terrible except for the headliners, don't know what was wrong?!

Apart from the fact that those organising media coverage for T in the Park are without doubt the most incompetent human beings I have ever dealt with I do have to say that the fest long stopped being about the music. Around about 2003 something ugly started happening - people bought their tickets a year early purely to get ****** and stagger around a muddy field. I know some of them and they couldn' have more than 4 CDs in their entire collection. I last went in 2005. It was fine and all but the level of aggro made it hard to deal with.

Nowadays I prefer T in the Fringe.

Agree with you completely about T - I think it's just part of the festivals = trendy mentality plus the "any excuse for a ****-up" mindset. I gave up on T In The Park about 3 - 4 years ago, for the very same reasons, having been a fan of the festival since the first one.

It's started to be known as "Neds In The Park" within the local music community!

To be fair its had that image for quite some time. I wouldnt go near that festival even if I had some freebie tickets.

However in its defence it looked like there was actually some atmoshphere during the performances. Some of the other televised gigs recently have been painful to watch, its almost as if the atmoshpere/crowd have been sanitised.

I mentioned this to a few people but there weren't as many neds at T this year, even at the Slam Tent there were fewer McKenzie shellsuit wearing individuls than normal

There's always been neds at it even when it was in Hamilton.
I'd be amazed if I went and didn't see a variety of ginger fools crashed out on the ground steaming with their pus sunburnt!

The rising price has probably meant that their benefit can't quite stretch to a ticket these days.

It's sold out already for 2008. A rather sad state of affairs (no doubt 50% of these pre-sold tickets will be on ebay by the end of the week seeing as the eternally incompetent Geoff Ellis doesn't seem to want to do anything to stop the touts).

I don't know how you stop the barrage of neds that attend (in 2005 well over half the crowd was not there for anything except a **** up and to wander around hollering). The festival is a sh1thole though.

Couldn't agree more. I've totally gone off it. This year was only the 2nd year I've not bothered (in a row), and it's because it's got too big, and the tickets are sold too early only to re-appear on e-bay. It used to be a great festival up to about 60,000 per day but any more is too much. There's hardly a patch of grass to sit on now and if you do find one it's usually covered in disgarded noodles.

The neds are a pain too. They are just not interested in the music.

Lorne.t
11-07-2007, 21:59
No chance.
Not with the hideous line up they had this year.
I doubt anything will replace it but the Connect Festival has more of a chance as it would appeal to a classier type of fan.

downhillbiker
11-07-2007, 23:34
Hideous lineup?

Daft Punk playing their first Scottish date in years, The Chemical Brothers, Groove Armada and the Manics all headlining, as well as loads of smaller, great bands - it was a fantastic lineup, and was phenomenally well received - there was a pleasing lack of chav scum too.

If you want a ***** lineup, have a look at Live at Loch Lomond... an entire stage dedicated to gash dj sets from band members playing off their fame... absolute bilge. I'm probably going to be covering it, luckily I live close enough that I don't need to camp there with the soap-dodging masses.

Lorne.t
12-07-2007, 07:01
It's a hideous line up as every one of these acts saw their finest moments many years ago.
It's just a Happy shopper version of a festival,no better than the likes of guilfest (sp).I'm suprised Supergrass weren't on the bill.
It certainly has no chance of taking over from T.
There were a lot of good bands, especially new ones playing at T this year.
Indian Summer got off to a promising start band wise last year but they had it when it was freezing. This year it's been moved to this week but you can tell they've reduced the budget a lot as they only have a couple of big names so it's not going to be making big waves soon.
Connect looks the most promising as I said.
I've a photo pass for Lattitude this week so I'll see how that is for a festival experience.
No Neds and a lack of flying beer I would imagine!

downhillbiker
12-07-2007, 12:14
I guess we'll have to totally disagree on this one then - but comparing it to Guilfest is just ******** really, Rock Ness was much, much bigger and better. Guilfest looks like a pokey little church fair.

Connect just looks like it will be T in the Park for the pretentious masses - the fact that it's being marketed as "a boutique festival" is a shower of ***** - admittedly, the lineup looks good, but I could be doing without the pseudo-bohemian spin they're trying to put on it.
