View Full Version : Can you still get DVD players with optical out?

My olde Wharfedale 750 is getting pretty noisy these days, so it's time for a replacement.

I don't want to have to replace my home cinema system as well, so need a player with optical audio output. The few I've seen so far only seem to have coaxial...

... does anyone know any decent multiregion players with optical?

Also, I have a 32" Wega TV, so would progressive scan be worthwhile?

Cheers, RC4

(I used to be a real DVD geek back in the early days - now I feel left behind and bewildered  )

Most still have optical. How about the Sony NS76 or Pioneer 696? Progressive scan in the player only works if you use a component or digital connection. If the TV is a CRT Widescreen then it will be interlaced anyway. LCD and Plasma TV's can use PS.

Every DVD player and recorder I've ever owned had optical out, though the Panasonic didn't have coaxial out (for some strange reason). Doubt you'll find one without optical out.

The Panasonic S52 player has both optical and coaxial now.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I've been looking in the wrong places (Comet, Tesco, Sainsburys...)
