Hi all,
Would be really grateful for any opinions/recommendations for a mate who wants to buy a 32" w/s.
He has seen the Sony KV32FQ75 for £1325.01 on qed.com and finds it rather appealing.
Does anyone have any opinions on this tv or could recommend a better one 1400 max?
Also, this one I think is a 100hz model - whilst I have read this makes the quality really good, I also recall reading that 100hz models can have some odd peculiarities with the picture, leading some people to actually think they are faulty.
I agree with my mates feeling that simply having the label "sony" on something is lush, but if there is a better 32" w/s model out there then it would be daft to go for Sony.
ps - he has a sony dav500 system so all the tv really needs to have is nicam. also, he will be buying lots of r1 discs if he can get the dav modified.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!!!
Cheers :-)

You can get the Loewe Aconda for £1450 from Empire Direct (although without a stand). I'd definately consider this TV, imo it's the best flat screen 100hz TV out there.

I've a KV32FQ75 and it's really good.
you can switch between 50 & 100Htz so your mate can choose which mode he prefers.
Only problem is that on pictures that are very dark I can see a ligher vertical ban moving from left to right accross the screen. The service guy from the telly store says it's probably interference so I'll tidy all my cables and replace the crap scart one that was supplied with my ntl box.
As your mates player outputs NTSC to the tv, if you connect it via scart you'll need to activate this for scart sockets on the service menu.
See this thread for details.

I'm toying with getting a DRC set but I'm only interested in the 50Hz mode as I can't stand 100Hz. What I want to know (and I can't tell from the crappy pictures in shops) is whether there are any unwanted side effects from the DRC processing e.g. on fast moving stuff like football. Or is it as natural looking as a vanilla 50Hz only with extra lines ?
Any comments appreciated

TBH I don't use the DRC much as I only watch cable and DVD's so the input is of a high enough quality not to annoy me.
I've furtled about with the DRC just to see if it makes any difference to the picture and it does... however, not being a video-phile I can't decide what's the best.
I did not see any unwanted side effects on any DRC mode at all.
Your best bet is go and get a demo of the set in a shop and see what blows your hair back.
PS - Anyone else know how to cure the lighter scrolling bar on a TV? is it interference?

I have a KV32FQ75. Its just over a year old now.
I can say it is excellent and you won't be sorry you got one.
I notice a distinct diff between 50 and 100Hz - I mean 100Hz is much better - its strange because I never noticed screen flicker when I had a telly that did only 50Hz. I leave it in 100Hz DRC mode but to be honest if you have a decent input to this telly you get a great picture quailty whatever mode you use. DVDs are really awesome on this telly - its 'looking through a window' quality.
The dual tuner is useful I find to watch another channel whilst waiting for those long Sky advert breaks. 3 scart AVS (1 RGB and 2 S-video) - plus a front panel s-video input. Its a big telly, almost as deep as it is wide. And heavy - I could not get it on the stand on my own. It ain't moving anywhere.
Simialar to Lord of The Rants I see some interference on the set which lasts for about 2 minutes when first switched on. Not really a problem. Thats all.
I don't watch footie so I can't say if DRC effects it though I have seen such posts. I have not seen any bad effects on the stuff I watch which is lots of fast action movies and series. I think the footie problems are also to do with the broadcast quality.
Go for it.
Make sure you get the manual for the telly stand - its a bugger to assemble - the wife had to help me - so embarrasing. And the box it comes in is big enough to use as a garage.

Hear Hear Greenstead.
I agree with all you've said, Great Telly.
Also just to add to the comment about building the stand... remember to use the chipboard frame during assembly. It was only at the end I realised that I should have used it as it is a wooden replica of the įrse of the tv, and it keeps the stand all nicely in shape while you tighten all the screws.
PS - What does your interference look like on screen?

i have this tv and its really good. i leave it on 100Hz DRC and it's an amazing picture.
i do see the scrolling band with my Gamecube though (very faint) whilst connected to front S-Video
dual tuner is brilliant, i play games whilst watching the footy results :D
EDIT - £1325 is a good price, think it can be had for £1299 though at Unbeatable or somewhere like ElectroCentre (no comments to how good these r tho)

It looks like thin interference fringes all across the screen at a diagonal slant that drift across the screen and fade away in 1-2 mins from switch on. Always been there but I think its taking longer to go with age (the telly, not me). That seems a warming up problem so I'm not convinced its interference.
I use the AVs. I dunno if its present on all inputs. I'll check since I use RGB on AV1 from the DVD and video signal on AV3 from the NTL cable box. I think its on all.
One downside about Sony - their warranty is flawed. They won't reimburse their authorised repairers for call-out. Most (not all) do charge a call out fee to come to your home. With a telly this big call-out is essential. Having said that, problems with Sony kit are rare so its a small (but annoying) flaw.
Finch,
The 50hz mode on the Sony is still a digitally processed picture, not a natural 50hz.
I know , that's why I was asking about the differences between the DRC50 and a standard 50 Hz set.
Surprised to see so many people using the DRC100 as in shops (I know it's a lousy test as the signals are so poor) the standard 100Hz mode and the DRC100 look identical to me - both awful. The main attraction for me of the set would be the line doubling in the DRC50 mode.
