View Full Version : Comedy Recommendations Please
... in the same vain as Road Trip, Scary Movie etc etc. Typical teenage films that you can watch with mates and they make you laugh out loud :D. I have far too mnay serious films and not enough comedy to keep the guests entertained.
Maybe shed some light on the follwoing for starters
Hey Dude Where's My Car
Joe Dirt
Osmosis Jones
Evolution
Any help will be greatly appreciated both by myself and mates who need some light entertainment after too many viewings of SPR, U571, Armageddon etc etc

Evolution is 'okay', I was pleasantly suprised by it. Haven't seen the others.
I'd reccomend 'Go' if you haven't seen it, it's a comedy, though unlike most recent ones it comes across as not being made by the same morons as the rest.

I can only give my view on Dude, Wheres my Car.
It is one of the worst films I have seen in recent years.
Even with mates around there was only one laugh in 79 mins.

I'd disagree with this. It's by no means a classic or even a 'keeper' but it's definitly worth the rental cost.
Deuce Bigalow is fantastic you've not seen it.
surely everyone has seen it (!), but look no further than the classic Dumb & Dumber.........

I agree about "Go" - There are even boobies in it, which is always a plus. The director's first film "Swingers" is also worth watching. It is totally Money.
If you want something older, you can do no wrong with Spinal Tap - It's the most quotable film ever.

If youve got a multi region player, get American Pie 2. Its bound to impress your mates, especially as its release date over here (i think) is 18th March.
Mine were astounded i got it so early - they dont shop on the net much.:D
I hear <I>Freddy Got Fingered</i> is a good movie of it's type (despite it bombing in the US)
Any film where an elephant gets http://www.cityonfire.com/gZa/WTF/poundit.gif is one to check out! :p
Only film that made me laugh out loud through the entire film last year was Shrek.
American Pie 2 was okay in parts but not a patch on the first. Quite liked Josie & the Pussycats, High Fidelity, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Heartbreakers and the aforementioned Waynes World 1 & 2.

Another couple of votes for Go (http://members.tripod.co.uk/georgevader/Go.html)
and Deuce Bigalow( fabulous bad taste entertainment)
On a different level Best In Show is well worth a look too....
Heres some that I regularly watch with my mates that I don't see mentioned yet:
Ace Ventura 1 & 2
Any Adam Sandler (esp. Happy Gilmore)
Me, Myself & Irene
Police Academy
Dead Man On Campus (This has already been mentioned but seeing as its a relevatively unknown film I want to re-emphasize how funny it is)

The movie is inspired as is Tom Green - you will love it or hate it with a vengeance!

The Blues Bros. is pretty ideal to watch with your mates. Very funny, simple plot, lots of car chases and crashes and great music. The Big Lebowski is one of the funniest films ever, but not to everyones taste. Fear & Loathing is good but strange.
Some of these are very obvious, but these are the ones that consistently make me laugh:
Mallrats
The Man With Two Brains
Top Secret
Waiting for Guffman
Naked Gun
The Jerk
Airplane
Parenthood
This Is Spinal Tap
Bowfinger
Hope that helps!
