I sold a Sky+ box on ebay, in the listing I mentioned that I had upgraded the HD to a 160gb version but I forgot that had taken the HD out.

Anyway I send the Sky+ box (with a regular 40gb drive) to the buyer. I sold it £40 and it's in perfect condition. He complained that the drive was not as described, I explained that the mistake was genuine and I was sorry. I agreed to send on the 160gb HD to him, which I did. When he received the drive he complained that is was not compatible with the sky+ box (it is I sent him a Samsung Spinpoint drive which I used in the box) and he wanted a small refund to cover the mistake.

Now I went out of my way to rectify the problem and I explained that it was a genuine mistake and I was willing to refund him his monday if he sent me the box (and hd) back. He never responded to me and has now opened a Paypal dispute requesting all the money back.

This has really ****** me off as I held my hands up when I made a mistake and sent him on the hard drive which I forgot. He ignored my offer to refund aslong as he returned the box (at his expense obviously).

What is getting my goat is he sells Sky+ and Sky boxes as a business on ebay and he sells them on for a lot more than he paid me. I sold the box cheaply as I needed to clear some space and wanted rid quickly.

To be honest there is not a lot I can do is there?

If you offered a refund, I dont see why he is raising a dispute
I think the first thing Paypal offer is for you to resolve it one of two ways, refund (less your postage - I think) or escalate, so what raising the dispute achieves I dont know. :brickwall

He has raised a dispute because he wants a part refund but I offered a full refund which he never responded and raised the dispute.

It won't get him any further, just offer him a refund through the dispute panel. If he doesn't send it recorded/special delivery you can then screw him back (if you have low morals that is)

Paypal have with held the money from my account and I don't want to give him a refund until he sends the box back. Also paypal have with held the full amount including shipping so If I offer the refund will the money go out of my account straight away? In that case I would lose £15 for the shiping.

The refund would not be paid out until you receive it back. He would have to send it via secure trackable delivery to stay within Paypal t&c's. I do not believe you would be liable for any postage costs, certainly not the return ones, but check in the dispute panel for info.
Also make sure to point out that you supplied him with one Sky+ box and 2 HDD's.
