Hello Everyone,

It is my very first tread so please bear with me.

Having been a keen photographer in the past, I decided to restart my hobby again.

I current have two Canon EOS 100, one with a 28–105mm and the other with a 100–300mm lens.

I now wish to move to a DSLR now (I have had a compact digital camera for some time now), and are interested in getting the Canon 400d.

Here lies my problem – I wish to part exchange both cameras and the 28-105mm lens for a 400d.

Currently, I would get about £100 for the part exchange.

My question is – should I exchange now while a get a good price for the film cameras or should I wait 4 – 6 months and hope the prices for the DSLR would go down but not get such a good deal for the part exchange?

Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks

The price for the 400d has levelled off i think, i cant see it getting much lower at all.

What i would watch out for is the 30d,s falling in price if the rumoured 40d comes out within a month or less.

I bought a 20d for £480 and a 30d for £520 from the canon outlet store on ebay, they also have a few 400d,s on there as well. Keep an eye out and you may snag one at a good price. They all come with 1 yr canon warrantys to.

Do a search on the Canon ebay store - they appear to have been guilty of very sharp practice eg selling unrepaired cameras/lenses and then giving you a partial refund so you can sort out the repair yourself.

Ive had 2 from them, 1 needed to be repaired, but it took less than a week to get done, so i was happy, and i paid less anyway.

You can get some good prices though if you know your stuff.

If working on a budget, are you sure you want to get rid of both lenses?

28-105 is a decent lens though & not awfully expensive, must be worth keeping?
