I don't think it's cut just a different version to the R1 according to www.dvdcompare.org.uk . I had this turn up yesterday from EZDVD and I'm looking forward to watching this as I've never seen it. Hope it's good!:)

It's cut by substitution. The R1 shows a throat slitting from the front, the R2/4 release shows it from behind. This was suggested by the BBFC as necessary to preserve a '15' cert when the film was originally released. Fox used the same master for both the UK and Australian releases (Paramount own the US rights). There are no other differences between the two versions.

although I suppose that's not a huge deal, I've heard bad things about the transfer on the R1 - even with this 'cut', is the R2/4 still the one to go for, based on the poor picture on the R1? I've heard it's not just the NTSC/PAL thang either....it's simply inferior.

I own the R4 version - the transfer is pretty good and it is presented in 2.35:1 - which was nice!!

Of the 2 throat slitting scenes - I noticed it was the second scene that was cut for UK viewers, as stated by Mel Gibson in the commentary. Although you do get to see the actual throat cutting in the R4 version.

Only minor details but R4 version is cheaper too :D

On it's UK premiere in Glasgow they screened the fully uncut 18 version. This basically involed showing alot more gore in the battle scenes.

I believe the film had to trimmed of excessive gore to avoid an NC-17 rating, the R rated print being the one that was distributed internationally (plus whatever extra cuts various censor boards required). Is this true?
