Does anyone know if the R2 Die Hard boxset (out 04-02-02) has a DTS soundtrack, the same as the R1 has ?
Thanks

Dunno Alan, but i think Die Hard 3 is cut in the UK, so I say go with R1 if you can.
I got the R1 boxset for £40 delivered from Future Entertainment (http://www.futureent.com).

Are you impressed with it ?
Are the extras the same on both regions ?
Thanks.....
Die Hard 3 is not in the R2 boxset because BV own the rights.
Fox owns the R2 rights to Die Hard 1 and 2

I just ordered mine from HMV Canada (I posted a $15 off $80 coupon in deals and bargains), so got the box set for about $C69 (about 30 quid) shipped (it normally costs $C70, so you'll need another title in mind too). In other words, you can get all three films for less than the price of two in R2.

It should have DTS, according to http://www.r2-dvd.org/article.jsp?sectionId=3&articleId=3289

Does the $69 include shipping Samuel?? If so, then that's a good buy. You can expect a customs & PO charge of around £6 to that, but it should still come to less than £40.
BTW Alan i'm very impressed with the R1 Boxset, all are Dts, all have 1st rate transfers with kick ass sound, all have at least one audio commentary & are 2-discers.
You can read a review of each disc in the R1 boxset here (http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_3/diehard_ultimatecollection.html).

Okay, for those who may have missed it, the coupon code is hmv6925 and you must enter using www.hmv.com/jandvd
The code is for $15 off $80 worth of goods, so you'll need another title in mind as well, because DH:UC costs $70. Shipping is $11.50, $13 and $14.50 for 1, 2 and 3+ items. The rest of HMV's prices tend to be slightly higher than ABSound's.
Sam
Thanks for that samuelowens just got Die Hard Ult Coll & Bedazzled for £41 ish.
Is there a chance that customs would miss this.:D
Because Bedazzled was not in stock and holding up my delivery i have reordered getting Mad Max instead.
I have also ordered it to be gift wrapped instead hoping to put off customs.
Damn just noticed it will still be boxed in side wont it.Oh well heres hoping.

I received mine last night - 8 days from Canada to Oz ain't bad and the goods arrived in perfect condition (although I can't comment on customs because Australia's limit is $A500 :D).
I used the HMV offer, and got the Die Hard Boxset and a bond dvd for 38quid, got sent to the UK in 5 days and had no custon charge, Very impressed :)
Dynamic
     Got It without customs charge.
Shame i bought the gift wrap after all.
How long did it take you guys to get your orders from HMV?

There's also a $10 off $60 code available using the link www.hmv.com/saveten expiring 28 Feb (perfect for those who just can't find another title to order). Code is H3X 69Q
8-], it seems five days is the go.

Just ordered one using that code, thanks.
I am thinking of buying the DieHard 1+2 R2 box set on monday.
Would I be missing out on anything that is in the R1 releases?
yup - Die Hard 3! ;):D
seriously, unless you can't play R1's, go for the Ultimate Collection on region 1. It's really quite daft that two different companies own the rights to the Die Hard series over here - the R1 set can't really be beaten...
I'll echo mjb1975
If you cannot play R1 akuma get a new player mate. The region 1 is superb.

whats does the R1 have over the R2 boxset extras wise for DH 1 + 2 ?
Yeah I can play R1, I couldnt live without it! :D (Akira Tin, TFATF, Mallrats Spec Ed, the list goes on)
I was thinking of getting the R2 box set and then the R1 release of Die hard with a vengence at a later date. Theres no way I buying the R2 version of DHWAV.
I just want to know if id lose anything with the first 2.
Cheers :)

theres a new R2 SE released 18/3/2002
check this out !

Doesn't mention DTS or whether it is cut like the previous R2.
I'd rather buy the R1 version for £30 which has all 3 uncut films on 6 discs with DTS, etc.
In fact I did just that (thanks to this thread).

are these r1 canadian HMV imports being hit by customs..?

They can be hit by customs, but so far nobody on this thread has had that problem.
It is always a chance though. Even if it is hit by customs it will be less than £40 and as such still good value.

Added $20 off $100 coupon for HMV in Deals and Bargains.
Am i been daft, the $15 doesn't work, it says Application Exception Pagecompile and then a load of gobble-d-gook. And i can't seem to find the certificate code for the $10 one

That's because you're probably using the .....\jandvd URL when you should be using the ....\febDVD URL.
Also I don't think that the $15 one works any more. Only the $10 and $20 ones (as posted on the Bargains forum thread)

... but still the question on everybody's lips is are the new R2 release of DH1&2 as good as the R1 5stars? ... are the extras the same? ... are the audio and picture as good? .... should I stop being so lazy and check out Rewind?
I for one am particularly keen to know since I would rather buy R2 if the product is identical (me being pedant over picture quality) and having bought the excellent R! French Connection 1&2 box UI was sorely disappointed to see what appears to be an identical R2 release available.

That is an incredible price compared to the R2 version  .
Ordered it via HMV Canada and less than an hour later received confirmation of shipping.
Has this been posted on the bargain forum?
Big thanks to samuelowens for the original heads-up and the voucher code :D

Thanks 8-].
So the DH1 specs appear identical but for the ROM content on each of the R1 discs. Elsewhere on the forums I've read people criticising the R1 sound and picture quality but maybe I should just take a leap of faith and go R1. At least that way I can have DH3 as well.
Thanks again.

Glad to help.
According to Rewind the R1 has the following extras:
Disc one
DVD-ROM: Script-to-screen comparison
Disc two
2 extended scenes: Airplane sequence & power shutdown scene
DVD-ROM links and game demos
while the R2 doesn't have either of the DVD-ROM bits mentioned above and on disc 2 only has the "Power shutdown scene" and not the "Airplane sequence".

That's the way I thought about it as well. £30 for all 3 as opposed to getting just 2 (from R2) for about the same.
I haven't seen the discussions about sound/picture. I might go and have a look now. (Not that it makes much difference to me now as I've already bought the R1). :)
