Heya.

I bought a DS Lite a few weeks ago off an ebayer who, up til then seemed genuine if a bit slow shipping items. But it's not materialsed and in the few days after that auction they sold 2 Wii console, 4 Nokia Sirrocco mobiles and a PSP, obviously to harvest some quick cash.

I've started a Paypal dispute, and they've not replied. I'm now wondering if I should just do a CC chargeback, as I've heard Paypal will the deduct postage costs, plus a £15 'admin' fee when refunding the money (ie. about £20 in all), and my card company would refund the whole lot. The total amount is £54.50.

Which would you do?

Ben.

I have managed to get my CC to initiate the chargeback before, however you do have to push in my experience, as paypal is an intermediary!, they may ask for paypals comment first!

Well I logged a dispute with Paypal last year, won and got all my money back. The problem you may have with Paypal is that if the person is on the scam they may not have any funds in the account so even though you may win you may not get any money back in which case you'll have to do a CC chargeback.

Have started both. A CC chargeback to ensure I get my money back, and a paypal dispute to make sure the guy gets in trouble.

Seems to have worked - he's 'no longer a registered user' on eBay and I suspect his paypal account has long since been frozen! :)

Frozen makes no odds to a scammer, if he was on the ball then he'll have transferred the funds out of it ASAP as he knows he doesn't have much time to play with.
