View Full Version : Back to the Future - the Aussies get it first.
Don't know if this has been posted, just done a quick scan and couldn't see it. I got this information regarding the PENDING release of BTTF on DVD from Dark Horizons:
Back to the Future (DVD): A few weeks back it was reported that the British censorship board had approved a trailer for a "Back to the Future" trilogy DVD set to play with upcoming video releases, then earlier this week Aussie copies of the "Jurassic Park III" video were revealed to contain the same trailer. So what in the hell is going on? Moviehole has learned the official truth at last as to the release pattern: "Universal says that Back to the Future will be released on DVD In Australia sometime mid-year. However, it's a different story in America. Although the DVD's are due sometime this year too, they are holding off because they might be re-releasing the original "Back to the Future" movies to cinemas". Thanks to 'Clint'.
Fingers crossed for both a dvd release and cinema re-release. :D

I used to think that way but got bored of being screwed over time and time again!
Looking forward to a R4 release and a UK cinema release!:D

But how can that be the case if you're buying Australian disks that just happen to be R2 coded? :p

Get ready for the deafening roar of complaints from the US to the effect that "they’re our movies so why are the rest of the world getting them first?".

As an Aussie, I will now make a preemptive :p
The news has made my night... Must hurry off to DVDPlaza and report it.
Didn't the trailer say "Summer 2002"?
i.e. Aussie summer = our winter

That's very clever Nick, never thought of that.

But did Universal actually say mid-year, or are people assuming that because the trailer (which is a statement from Universal) said summer, it must be our mid-year summer?

This is exactly the point that I've been making to people... from where I stand, it all looks perfectly sensible and logical...
The R4 trailer says "Summer 2002" = November/December time
Cinematic re-release in June/July to get everyone hyped up, then release the trilogy (as a trilogy only to make extra Xmas cash) in November, and all is well... this fits perfectly with everything we've heard, and is the same as is happening with ET, basically.
They've re-mastered the sound and picture for the DVD, so they're cashing in with a cinematic release. Fair play, I'd love to see it on the big screen again. :)

It's Summer 2002 now (in Oz). Does this mean the discs have been delayed again? ;)
