View Full Version : Cronos - Ed Gein
I see Tartan have seen fit to release these. Are they any good in terms of picture quality, etc....
The worry I have is that Cronos is advertised as being 1:33.... is it pan and scan?

I've heard bad things about the Tartan disc picture quality wise, aside from potential aspect ratio problems (though I'd guess it's more likely to be open-matte than pan-and-scan). Given this label's deservedly lousy reputation when it comes to in-house transfers, I'd wait for a detailed review before splashing out!

I bought the R1 version of Ed Gein, which believe it or not is released by Tartan, and is predictably full screen and featureless..

I would’ve thought Ed Gein would get better than usual treatment from Tartan as the owner, Hamish McAlpine, was the producer on the movie. Apparently not though.
Aspect ratio of Cronos according to IMDB (http://us.imdb.com/Technical?0104029) is 1.85:1.
The R2 Ed Gein claims to be "Widescreen Anamorphic" which could mean anything! Seeing as my widescreen copy of Happiness is labled as being fullscreen on the box I take these things with a pinch of salt.

I've got Cronos and i'm happy to report it's a very good animorphic print with player generated subtitles.
I think Tartan are finally getting the point.

In which case I stand corrected - and am very tempted!
"...player generated subtitles..."
...ain't no such thing nohow!... the player doesn't 'generate' anything - it merely 'reads' the bit streams encoded on the disc...
...the (only) correct way to say it = optional subtitles...
(funny thing is: nobody would ever dream of mentioning a 'player generated' soundtrack - why is that?)

Excellent - I'll buy it! Ever since Tartan came up trumps with the fantastic player generated soundtrack on Tesis I've loved them. ;)

Yoikers!!! How come I've ended up with a full screen print, then? Did they release different versions? I've got the R2 version, BTW.
