View Full Version : how do I know what DVD-R 'speed' to go for?

With computers it was simple because you can set the write speed, but if I'm buying discs for my Pioneer DVD Recorder (standalone), is there any need to worry about the record speed? Will it identify the speed automatically? Reason I'm interested is because I don't want to buy a load of 8x discs only to find there are errors if it tries to record faster than that.
cheers :)

EDIT: Just to clarify, its when I'm burning from the HDD to DVDR that the speed issue crops up - obviously if I'm recording live it will only be single speed, so no problem then! ;)

My Panasonic DVD recorder can only write at single speed so it's not an issue.

Your standalone will only write in realtime which I'd assume is one speed.

yep, if I'm recording 'live' it will be recording at 1x speed, but its a HDD/DVD drive, so I can rip from HDD to DVD relatively quickly, hence the speed issue - sorry, should've mentioned that in my first post!!
