The gaps between UK and US are getting shorter now, wonder if this is to try and deter downloaders?

only becasue sky want to capture more subscribers and its only a couple of shows.

..... and one of the main reasons is UK broadcasters will wait until the season is finished / nearly finished so they can air the entire season with little or no breaks which UK audiences are use to.

Now Sky audiences have experienced US broadcasting ..... and I for one have heard numerous people at work etc wondering where the hell its dissapeared to for over 2 months.

Sky really should've announced up front that it was only a 6 week run at the end of last year (just like abc did in the US).
It is great that we now have 2 of the biggest US shows in the same week the episodes premiere in the US. I think it's partly to counter downloading and partly to give Sky subscribers decent value for their money. To make the effort to get these shows to us as quickly as possible makes Sky a far more attractive proposition. Some people will never be satisfied and will bitch and moan about anything but for me having two of my favourite shows in a nice block on Sunday nights is tv heaven and something I'm more than happy to be paying for.

Well, it's soon going to be: Top Gear, followed by 24 and Lost over on Sky 0nc - so if you like to watch your TV live as it's broadcast in the UK (but suffer inferior picture and sound on Sky as opposed to the US high-res 5.1 rips), then Sunday nights are pretty good.

Erm - how are the US versions superior to Sky HD / DD 5.1 ? (apart from having no adverts, which us time shifters don't suffer either) - of course I exclude the "satisfaction" that people may feel for not having to pay for something most of us do.

I'll still be downloading due to the PAL tv speed-up. I caught an episode on Channel 4 a while back after getting used the original US episodes and everyone sounds like chipmunks!!!

Erm - they might not be necessarily - when did I ever mention SkyHD? I was referring to bog-standard Sky.

I was referring to the HR rips anyway (which are 5.1 and 720p in some cases). These look MUCH better than standard res. Sky.

The standard def. rips can however, sometimes look much WORSE than standard res. Sky (American Idol being one such example).

indeed - comparing a US HR rip of any series with a rip of BSG from SkyHD shows up a lot of compression artefacts on the Sky version. Maybe it was the rippers signal but the quality was lacking. As far as I can see Sky HD will suffer the same issues due to the delivery method as normal sky. And thats before you start talking bitrates...

I download TV shows from the US because:

They are often available quite a bit before the UK run.
They are more-often-than-not in a much better quality than what is shown on regular Sky / Freeview. (Supernatural and The Unit always look and sound stunning)
No adverts.
5.1 audio.
All stored in one place and easily accessible from both my Xbox and 360 alike.
I even download UK TV programs such as Top Gear, Prime Suspect (over Xmas) and Midsummer Murders because it is easier for me to store them on my PC than on my Sky+ box (which seems to need constant "Housekeeping" and loses all my recordings - this is my 3rd box now!!).

Can we stop in with all the download stuff talk as even though we allow the discussion of US programmes, we don't allow their sources to be discussed.
